The defense had a players only meeting before Syracuse.
It then proceeded to give up 14 points to Syracuse and 14 points to Notre Dame.
Even if you say 21 points to Notre Dame, that's not exactly terrible defense.
In saying that, the defense had its manhood questioned Saturday night because those 14 points were a result on ND running down Clemson's throat.
No defensive player or coach will tell you that they did well Saturday night, but the offense would have cost Clemson 2 straight games if not for a run game revival against a beaten up Syracuse defense in the 2nd half.

Yeah, the defensive performance Saturday night was largely the result of issues unrelated to the defense. My only real problem with the defense was the td right at the half, where they just ran it down our throats on an 8 or 9 play drive.

You know, that's been the real oddity here the past two

seasons. Dabo and the staff put a lot of effort into helping build and bring out leadership qualities in their kids, heck it's a big part of their recruiting strategy, but we haven't really seen anyone step up and take those reins, save for some moments with Will Shipley since he got healthy midway through last season. Outside of that, there seems to be a void on both sides of the ball there, and that's concerning.

How do you think a team that was preseason top 5 that fell to 3-3 went on to win the rest of their games?
Do you not think there was major leadership on the team involved in keeping everybody together to finish the season strong?

I referenced Will Shipley there. When he was back fully healthy last season he played a major role in lifting the team's spirits. He's been a presence like that this season also, but that seems to largely be the extent of it, from appearances anyway.

You are discounting a lot of other guys taking charge last season and this season.
The defense had a players only meeting after FSU and has proceeded to give up 14 points in each game since.
The problem is that the offense has given up an average of 14 points in each game as well.
Having good leadership doesn't mean you never lose.
Henry, Ngata, Potter, McFadden and others have all had clear moments this season where their leadership has been shown on the field or on the sidelines during games.
If that many players have been shown on tv it means there is plenty more going on behind closed doors.
Just because Shipley talked about wanting to be a leader last season in an interview and then we started winning doesn't mean he is a the only one trying to be a leader on the team.
