Is it supposed to mean something or is it just a cute soccer word?

The only thing I know is that the United Soccer Coaches is an organization that ranks the teams. I'm not sure if there is a connection.

Except it's being used as the actual name of the team. We don't say Clemson All-In when we show our team name.

Where do you see it being used as a "name of the team"? Social media accounts for the team refer to "Clemson University Men's Soccer".

I think many US colleges and the NASL added the suffixes used by many European soccer teams to their team names. Not exactly sure why they felt the need to do it but I noticed it some time ago..

I believe it was the team's clever take on "CU" being our school abbreviation and simply expanding on that due to its meaning in the sport. A soccer twist on our name is all.

It’s a European thing I.e. Manchester United
And several more are known as United. Think it goes to when smaller teams merged into one larger team.
I like it. Think it gives them a psychological advantage

Teams usually have the word ‘united’ in their name as a result of historic amalgamation where two or more clubs within a local town or city joined forces to form one larger and stronger team. In other instances, it is simply used to evoke a sense of togetherness and unity among the players that represent the club and the fans that support it.

Clemson teams don't need an extra word to be united. We unite behind the paw.

I remember the scarves starting when I was at Clemson (09-13)
https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-defeats-gardner-webb-3-0/
Look. Here’s an article from the 2013-2014 season. As you can see in the photo, the crest on the jersey is the Clemson United one. (Also can we bring back those sweet purple tops?)

Yep. I worked at the TSS in 2015-16, and the Clemson men's team was branded as "Clemson United" for a year or two at that point. I sent a buddy of mine (we studied abroad in Germany 2013/14 together) in Peru one of the jerseys that said "Clemson United" in early 2015.
I think it's to mimic European teams/clubs. In the same way that DC United, Detroit City FC, and others do. I think it works.

Nothing wrong with scarves, but can we just keep the correct name of the team on them?

It was done to make it feel like a soccer club give the team a following, partnering with student groups etc and make scarves and merchandise unique to the soccer program.
And “United” is a known name for soccer clubs even amongst casual non-soccer sports fans.
Clemson United is actually older than the name Atlanta United.

“Hey, I just noticed we have a soccer team…let me post negative #### about their name.”
I think some of you need to go back to ignoring everything except football.
If you’re just now noticing that we use United, you are not a fan and we don’t care what you think. Hop right off the bandwagon, please.

The team has 4 national championships, 2 under Coach Noonan.
They can call themselves Clemson United, Clemson FC, AFC Clemson, Real Clemson, Atlético de Clemson, etc. I don’t care. It’s obviously working as Clemson United. Just keep winning baby!
