If you can only listen to 10 bands/artists for the rest of your life,

who would it be? I know we've done this kind of thing before, but things change. Me:
1. The Beatles 2. Led Zeppelin 3. The Rolling Stones 4. The Who 5. Black Sabbath 6. Rush 7. Van Morrison 8. The Allman Bros 9. Steely Dan 10. Pink Floyd
I had to leave out some favorites and truly great artists. Jimi Hendrix would have easily been in my top 5 at one time, but I have found myself listening to him less over the last few years. Others would include Van Halen, The Eagles, AC/DC, Simon and Garfunkle, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Grateful Dead, The Police (ouch!), Queen, Jeff Beck (dang!), Genesis, ELO, Chicago, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Clash, Blue Oyster Cult, Guns and Roses, Pearl Jam, Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac, UFO, and I'm sure some others. All of those got a lot of headphone/earbud time over the years, and could easily move into the top 10 at any time.

I like that too 10 too an extent, but I definitely wouldn't have the Who or Black Sabbath. That question is too tough to answer though.

I was reading some Billboard list and they have Herb Alpert on there. Somehow I missed him and no nothing about him.

then I would have to be a rebel and an outlaw who broke the rules even if that meant armed insurrection and the complete willingness to kill so that I could keep my playlist as broad as I wanted.

Just missed the cut: Parliament George Jones

but I'll play along as it is an interesting thought exercise......
Culled several bands I love because their catalog just isn't large enough (Sex Pistols, Queensnryche). Other bands I truly love were painful cuts, but couldn't fit them all in there (Cheap Trick, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Rush).
So in no particular order.....
1. Blackfoot 2. Drivin n Cryin 3. Megadeth 4. Thin Lizzy 5. Jimmy Buffett (gotta have something mellow for the AM) 6. Drive-By Truckers 7. Supersuckers 8. ZZ Top 9. Jason & the Scorchers 10. Van Halen (incl. all Sammy Hagar's stuff). If splitting hairs, I go solo Sammy.
Just realized after looking at it that half are some form of "Southern Rock". And that's perfectly OK with me.

Morrison with Fleetwood Mac.
Just for ecclectics sake, I would want an 11th slot, to be occupied by The Band.
Notable leaveouts, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Both, to me have the same problem live. They make absolutely no effort to sync their singing to the music, which comes off completely disjointed, and not sounding like the songs on record at all. Dylan, let's face it, truthfully one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but as a singer, meh. (I am also quite sure neither he nor The Boss is going to lose a nanosecond of sleep worrying about what I, or anybody else thinks of them! )
