Political Violence....
1

It's become too commonplace in America. And both the left and the right have used this tactic.
You can list the victims/targets, and it's becoming a long list: Gabby Giffords, Steve Scalise, Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi, Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, the mayor of Louisville, the two Minnesota representatives yesterday, Mike Pence....
There was the arson at the New Mexico Republican headquarters, the planting of pipebombs at the DNC & RNC buildings in Washington.
One of the reasons that our congress is broken is that our representatives/senators are afraid of us. That shouldn't be the case.
As a society, the US overall has had lower murder rates than decades ago. We've become more safe, with still a ways to go. But on political violence, we're going in the wrong direction.

I actually agree.
They've siloed us into Red and Blue teams and pitted us against each other like freaking Emperor Palpatine sitting there and cackling "good...GOOD!" as Luke and Darth Vader went at it. Point them at each other, because if they get together, they're going to realize you're the biggest bastage in the room and that isn't going to be a good day for you.
Populism happened because our reps and Senators allowed themselves to get bought and paid for by moneyed interests...and of course, they served those interests instead of the people they were elected to represent. It's what you have to do, they said, if you want to survive in Washington. They even had a name for it: realpolitik.
Just one small problem there - our reps and Senators weren't there to @%^$ing "survive in office." The first three words of the Constitution are "We The People" and when you've already gone wrong in those first three words, nothing after them is going to work either.
We were never supposed to have a professional political class in America. We the people - you go to Washington, do your bit for the people who elected you...and come home. I go to Washington, do my bit for the people who elected me...and come home. Then Bob down the street goes to Washington to rep the people who elected him...and comes home. Exactly the way juries work, in fact. It's not a prize, it's a duty you perform because people trusted you with it and the system doesn't work without We The People participating in it.
The second it became about "surviving in Washington", the system broke. It's been limping along on life support ever since...and now it's populism time. It's these Bad People over here - point at some random group - gays, trannies, Guatamalan bean pickers, anybody else who can't defend themselves, and make it all about them. The world will be golden...if we can just get trannies out of women's sports, because after all, that's what's wrong with our once great nation today...not crappy leadership on both sides of the aisle. And on the other side, you've got shrill leftists so self-loathing and so self-righteous and misguided they're literally championing Muslim extremists who massacred thousands of people and who refused to stop fighting a war they lost 75 years ago...as the innocent victims, not willing participants in an endless cycle of violence that leaves no hands clean.
The politicians made this mess by not serving We The People, turning us against each other like pit bulls in a cage...and the people are acting out. I don't condone it but it's why we're here. And if we want to not be here, we need to start electing reps, Senators, and presidents who actually serve the people who elected them - real leaders, not careerists looking to eat like hogs at the public trough.
If we don't, it's going to be the end of us, and it really is that simple.

were there because they disapprove of the White House clown destroying democracy. People are genuinely pisssed. Thankfully, the sheriff who threatened the protestors on the radio early in the week behaved himself. Only guy who got arrested was a MAGA guy who punched a dude and shoved his wife. So, F that guy.
I do t think it’s contrived , I think it’s planned.

I just don't think that they are protesting because they think he is destroying democracy. They don't even know why they are protesting. It's like most Dem protests, meaningless. They don't even help their cause in the end.

There is nothing MAGA about me. I am just calling it as I see it. The Dem protests are always a joke and never hold any weight. Nobody cares what they are protesting anymore. It's usually a convoluted mess with little direction and without a defined complaint or goal. It's every man and woman for themselves at these rallies. Nobody even knows what they want. There are dozens of different types of protests going on at the same time. It's a mess. Nobody is more sick of Trump than I am. That's irrelevant that the Dems are just feeble right now. They are lost.

Forgot to add, they should have turned out and voted. That's where they would have made a difference. Think of all those that didn't vote out of protest. As far as these protests, they don't help in any way sadly.

you didn’t attend, but you did. There were lots of elderly folks out there in the heat and humidity that regretted the vote they cast and they were there to say so. What do you want protesters to do? Take over the capitol buildings? What would you have them do to be more effective?

I have been around enough Dem protests. They are pretty meaningless now and hold little weight. They might even help Trump sadly. Of course there people there from all backgrounds. That doesn't really matter. To be more effective they might want people to better understand what they are protesting. They might not want to have idiotic signs such as Nobody Is Illegal On Stolen Land. To be quite honest, probably less protesting and just more grass roots getting people out to vote and finding causes the resonate with the swing vote so that the Dems can hopefully defeat MAGA. Nobody even knows what the Dems want. Their causes don't resonate. End of Democracy? That doesn't sell either.

Not supporting free and fair elections is a hot dog in the windpipe of democracy. MAGAs are trying to shid on election laws on every state. Conservatives don’t want that, liberals don’t want that, but MAGAs do. ####, Donny is already talking about a 3rd term. His administration is breaking laws and challenging the courts to say so. Those are distinctly undemocratic actions. Some whacko offed a MN senator and shot another MN politician…what do you call that? What happens when the clown declares martial law?
Read project 2025, it’s the playbook. If that’s not enough to convince you, I don’t know what is.

He isn't going for a 3rd term and he loves the Dems getting all caught up in nonsense. He just seems Dems on a wild goose chase. Project 2025 and focusing on that will just make us sound nuts.

One of the issues with Dems is that they seem to protest so much about anything, that no one seems to pay them much attention anymore. A little bit like the boy who cried wolf.

Obviously get more out to vote in the midterms next year. When you have an administration that threatens all who oppose it, what should they do? Take it lying down?

True, but to get MAGA in the midterms and in 2028, the Dems better start talking kitchen table issues and.issues that resonate with the basic person worrying about the basics. That other stuff won't sell at all.

The optics of carrying Mexican flags while protesting isn't going to help them. The Dems have gone so crazy on issues over the past decade or so that they may lose to a clown show again in the midterm.
The opposite of crazy is not crazy.

Its their right to protest, but they don't help in any way. What they can work on is getting a message that others believe in and can relate with. Right now it's the same playbook that cost Kamala.

While I do basically agree with the sentiment of the OP I also agree with the others that while our elected representatives may definitely hold us in contempt, they in no way fear us.

And the MAGA's need to keep in mind which group controls the cities, communications, technology, universities, government institutions - especially the CIA, NSA, FBI - military brass, and oh, yeah, the money. Blue counties in the US represent 71% of the wealth in this nation; red ones just 29%, and virtually all banks in the nation are centered in major cities.
If MAGA decides civil war is the way forwards, everybody loses. Nobody wins a civil war. But the red states will come out of it far, far worse. And this one will be far less of a contest than the last one was. Day 1 of any real intramural conflict, they turn off your internet, your phone, your bank account, and kill goods access at the ports.
But then...who feeds the cities?
We may not like each other, but separation is not a viable strategy. For anyone.

It appears the left will start the process of violence . My point is they better think long and hard about taking violence to a group much better armed than they are. I don't advocate civil war. I hope we never see another one. If it does start, the left will devour themselves. All you have ho fo is cut the food supplies to the cities and they will devour their own..

When the President of the US blanket pardons the rioters that violently overran the Capitol, then it seems like the behavior has been greenlighted.
