Speaking of wine coolers ...

Wonder why they went out of favor ?
They were fruity, cool, and refreshing.
Bartles & James were the party makers in the 80s.
Nowadays, they call them "hard cider" ... guess it sounds more manly. But its the same stuff.
People are weird.

That sugar laden booze elixir led to drunken nights for many young people back in the day.

Wine coolers were originally made with actual wine. In 1991

the federal excise tax on wine went from .17 cents per gallon to 1.17 per gallon. Almost overnight the wine cooler dissapeared and Zima and Smirnoff Icce took it's place.
Some wine cooler producers tried to continue with products that did not actually contain wine but that did not succeed.

Zima is good stuff! They have done limited release last two summers, usually in June a little before July 4th. I find it in Harris Teeter and Publix. I usually buy 6-7 six packs so they last for several months.
Start looking for them soon.

I still try not to drink too much, but I bust loose sometimes and have a few Bartles and James at breakfast each day to take the edge off.

Wine coolers are made with malt liquor and are still around. Seagram's among several others.

20/20.
Yet when I drink a few bottles, I start seeing double.
What’s up with that?

MD 20/20 has it's place, but for those of us with finer tastes 'enjoy' Boones Farm's collection of fine wines. Perhaps the best wine with a screw top.
