Good morning everyone how was your weekend?

Friday night, Kendall's grill for supper then went to see the The Phoenician Scheme. Movie was good, about what I expect from Wes Anderson. Also reminded why I don't go to movies very often. I think we were the first to buy tickets to that show. I picked the center row right behind the handicapped section figuring nobody would end up in front of us. Some fools picked the row right behind us, it was old people. The lady kept kicking my chair like some child on an airplane. This good for nothing so and so also had the gall to ask if other walking in would be sitting right behind them. There was another group with a woman who talked during any break during preview time. I mean she was as loud as she could be. Also started talking the second the movie was over. I wish people would behave.
Saturday, went to Shoeless for the "Summer Beer" home brew competition. It was a good time, had some good and some awful beers. None of them screamed summer to me, but that's okay. Didn't do much else.
Sunday, house work.

Meh weekend. Watched baseball, golf and used my allotted 2025 1 NBA game lass night. Cooked up some NOLA style BBQ shrimps lass night but over did the cayenne. It was rather toasty.
10/10 (19/19 on the RH Covids scale) with additions for our AC working.

It either started Wednesday or Saturday depending on if you consider going to a conference work.
Wednesday loaded up and headed to the metropolis of greater Florence County.
Stayed in Cabin 1 at Lynches River County Park with other friends in Cabin 2 and at the Campground. The splash pad and canopy boardwalk are very cool.
The conference was at the Freshwater Ecology Center of Francis Marion University which is the first turn past Buc-ee’s coming from 95. it’s a beautiful facility and they have public access fishing and hulking trails if you’re into that.
The social event was at Seminar Brewing with fairly decent bbq, good beer, and excellent mac n cheese.
Keynote was Josh Arrants. If you ever get to hear him speak, it’s worth the effort.
Home on Saturday
Sunday usual with mom.
PS Buc-ee’s was insane and the brisket meh.

I wish it had some bark in the pan. Was pretty good pulled pork otherwise, no fat, moist, good smoke flavor. Definitely would eat again.
The mac and cheese was like the church ladies make for lunch after service on the grounds.
Worth a try and the atmosphere is pretty good too

End of vacation good...

was on vacation last week in HHI. Fun was had by all.
Was the first time staying in the Folly Field Beach area. House was great and had a pool and was ~10min walk to the beach. Had some great meals at French Bakery, Black Marlin, Kenny B's, Skull Creek Dockside, to name a few.
Traffic coming back on Saturday was as bad as I've ever seen it. Both I95 and I26 were backed-up in both directions for what felt like the entire trip. Normal 4hr trip took 6hrs.
Laid low on Saturday night.
Sunday...caught up on some chores around the house. Watched Caitlin Clark WNBA game, which is not something I ever thought I'd be saying. Without a doubt, she's changed the sport. She was cold from outside, but her passing is off-the-charts good. She still forces it some, but has made some improvements on that since last year. Officiating in the WNBA leaves a lot to be desired.
Fun week for all!

Sounds lazy af, but I need these about once every three months where I take inventory of where I am with everything.
Basically I did nothing.
It was hot af and played with the pups most weekend. Son came over a bit and did some work on a fence. Otherwise not much other than goal setting planning leadership classes for the team this year.
I did hang by my tmale in case cutiger85 wanted to meat up

Friday - DaughterOf#1 came by and spent the evening with us. We raised a couple of glasses to the solstice.
Saturday - trimmed the hedges and did some shopping.
Sunday - completed the refinishing of the lower kitchen cabinets. They turned out nice. Well anything looks nice compared to how they were before. I’ll tackle the uppers when we get back from vacation in July. Got hammered in celebration.

Its amazing food. The tuna ceviche (Tuna Nikkel) is super fresh and dried plantains vs chips is rocking. The Lechon Asada is so worth the 15 or 16 bucks...massive amout of great food. Bruch menu great too.
But the off the menu, Cuban coffees, with the banana pudding tres leches is unlike any desert I've ever had.

Thursday, Joonyer and I rode up to the Thirsty Beaver to see Lee Bains' solo show. Got there early and had a nice long catch-up with Lee before his set. He delivered his typical 90-minute solo set, which was great as always.
On Friday, I went to a reunion with all of my former coworkers. The company shitcanned the entire division in the beginning of June, and cut loose 35 people with a piddling severance and 10 days prior notice that it was happening. I had inside intel on this going back to the beginning of the year so I decided to retire because I could. Hung out at Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails for hours, catching up with everybody because they're all good folks, and once scattered to the winds, I don't know when I'll see most of them again. Suffice it to say, I could write a pretty long diatribe on this subject but y'all prolly ain't interested so I'll spare it.
Saturday, had planned to hit Steel Hands Brewing in Columbia for the Allgood show, but everybody bailed on me, so we ended up going to Bush N Vine in York for hot dogs, grabbed a bunch of fresh produce, and grilled out. We had picked some fresh plums and blackberries earlier in the week so we made fresh blackberry-plum barbecue sauce on pork chops, bacon and Swiss cheese squash casserole, corn on the cob, and lots of beers.
Sunday was a lazy day except for a grocery run. Had leftover BBQ chops, made a skillet of home fries and had fresh tomato slices with balsamic glaze and parm.
I had numerous options on the calendar and passed on a couple of bands and a couple of wrestling shows, but I enjoyed cooking for a change because, as of late, we're grabbing snacks on the go while running all over the country to see shows. I'll give it a straight-up 19/19 Covids.

Reverse jet lag isn't so bad. Had all weekend to adjust back. Laundry, sprayed for roaches, digested mail and email, wrote bills, unpacked, A DECENT SHOWER, AC, and ceiling fans are a blessing.
Watched Coastal lose to LSU. Grocery run. Supper last night was smoked poke chawps on the Traeger, broccoli, kawn on the kawb, and salat. Sam's run wasn't made, because wife said she'd do it, so anyway.....
Back in action. Went and saw mom and fixed her water (it can last 3 weeks), and got work set up for this morning. Lawyers are getting started now so I'm off to make 50 phone calls today.

Friday Cape Fear Clemson Club freshman event. 10 freshmen in our 5 county area, 5 showed up with the families. Good kids, SMART kids, awesome to have a decent crowd show up. Last year we had one kid show up. More local Wilmington families this time around, so that was great.
Saturday Beach Volleyball at Bill's. Daughter was again the #1 seed overall, swept pool play, 1st round bye, lose in quarterfinals to the team that eventually won the tourney. 4 hours of sitting between pool play and quarterfinals did them no favors. The girls were disappointed. Team they lost to had a coach with a Gamecock shirt on, which made it so much worse. He argued with my daughter who stood her ground, was nice to see. He is known to others as a jerk. Called a timeout when they had no timeouts left, then acted like he had no clue. Girls were down by 7, came back and tied it up, but lost the last 4 points. Was so hot the camera kept shutting off.
Sunday brother came wo Wilmington so we hit the beach for the day and Cape Fear Seafood for dinner. I may be a little drunk still this morning.

that will be worse than her iPhone's camera. That made us look for our old digital cameras, found 3 of them, all Canon Powershots, but no chargers can be found for the batteries.
Anyways, could have spent the $30 for a charger instead of the $30 for a crappy "retro" digital camera when we already have them at home.
I'm gonna look at some tetons, might snap a pic for sure.

Fri - took little one to Zaxby's, man that place is a shadow of it's former self. Fingers were edible, that's about all that needs to be said about that, amirite Lakebum1? Girls went to get haircuts. Had an impromptu date night with wife, sang some karaoke.
Sat - decided to go to Roma's for supper for one of the better margherita pizzas in town. Little one opted to stay home. Two glasses of wine, one beer, large house salad, and a large pizza was a little over $45 before tip. That's like stealing and still have leftover pizza to finish.
Sun - drain for the evaporator coil plugged up, didn't catch it until it was too late. The cheap "hardwood" flooring in that area is pretty much ruined. Trying to decide if I make a claim with the insurance company and possibly get new flooring in the place. I REALLY hate the flooring that is in there now. It looks good but it is a cheap floating floor type that is made up of a compoosite similar to masonite. It was there when we got the place, I would have not put that stuff in. Thinking a good quality LVT would be better suited for this application as we have had two similar issues with the A/C in this place. Went to bingo with son, won two of the four games for a total of $20. Nice, but not enough to cover new flooring, smh.

Held our annual 16-dude golf trip so I'll start it with Thursday:
Thursday: Gather with the boys for lunch at Hooters in Myrtle, then PGA store to buy some #### we'll just lose, and then off to the town homes. Load up on the limo bus for the dive bar we traditionally visit the night before the tournament. Some locals we've made friends with met us again and assisted in our debauchery. One old angry local who claimed to be a former Marine tried to start a fight with one of our guys, ended it when he and the woman he was with realized the numbers against him, but he did offer to fight us naked so there was that. My friend tried to buy me a bar T-shirt but gave up when I kept telling him my shirt size was "fat".
Friday: Nursed hangovers and cooked breakfast in the condo. Teed off at 2 p.m.; two-man teams with Captain's Choice, handicaps factored in, and a lot of stupid rules that make it more crazy. My partner and I shot pretty well but definitely had a few dumb ### moments. I think we shot an 85 that day. Back to the townhomes for Chinese food and booze.
Saturday: 8 a.m. tee time, shat the bed on one hole where I hit two trees in consecutive shots and went backwards down the course. Lunch at the clubhouse and then 2 p.m. tee time for the Par 3 round (every hole is shortened to a par 3 distances, regular par 3 played as is, helps with hot, old, and drunk dudes to play a quick round). This is our #### show round where you play with your "rival" team and get a little crazy. Played really well this round but that's the strength of my game.
Back to the townhomes, more Chinese, tallied scores, accused winners of cheating, smoked cigars and drank bourbon on the back porch.
Sunday: Limped back home very sore and a little poorer but great stories to tell.

Friday - got in 36 holes of Golden Tee shooting 17 and 19 under when both rounds could have easily been 20 under, drank too much
Saturday - went to birthday party for friend of youngest daughter. This is a super wild Ukranian family that is always fun and parties hard. Drank too much. Other MSynan saw it coming and was kind enough to leave me there to Uber home later
Sunday - buddy's birthday party. Didn't drink too much, but smoked way too much.
Need some rest. 18/19 COVIDS. No live music. Real shame too because good friends of mine were the special band this weekend for DJ Logic

Really did nothing remarkable over the w/e. Missus and I had a date on Thursday evening. Friday was laid back. Saturday was a little work in da mawn, a short run (too hot), began Chinatown, a classic movie I had never seen. Sunday was church, seggsy time, a brief errand to check our minivan's bat-ry, grilled turkey burgers, tots, and spicy slaw for dinner, finished Chinatown.
Watched some Club World Cup. Had a Recess non-alcoholic relaxation beverage (purdy good).
Anyhow, I feel better today not having drank at all over the weekend. Got my birffday coming up and the IOP vacay at the end of July, but in between I think I will remain alcohol free.

Saturday, she decided it would be a good idea to go for a 4 mile walk in the middle of downtown Columbia with 2 small dogs, so I'm pretty sure I was the most miserable person in South Carolina at that time. It was humid and hot and I had to carry my dog starting at about mile 2 when she gave out from heat exhaustion. Then I had to go to a garden center. But she cooked shrimp linguine and made banana pudding from scratch and rubbed my nuts a little so it was a wash I guess.
Sunday, I went to a church service and then went to the gym and then went and watched The Materialists.
I think I'm already starting to miss just doing what I want all day so will probably jump ship here soon.

You probably already know, but Steel Hands has two excellent Nashville Nights

coming up with free shows from Gabe Lee and Ben Chapman. We have tickets to other shows both of those nights, but would be going otherwise. Both are definitely worth seeing if you get the chance!

no I40 so drove past Asheville and took I26 into VA, took a left and drove through some beautiful land of SW VA toward Cumberland Gap, on to I75 at Corbin KY then Bucees and to Rupp Arena
Friday night was emotional and surreal after Billy came out by himself and told everyone that his Mom died that morning, his Mom was a fixture on his tours and he said she would have wanted him to go on with the show and they did, crazy
Saturday morning made some cappuccinos in the camper van and then chilled at McConnell Springs Park, sweet spot in the middle of an industrial park, no swimming but very cool spot, hit up a few breweries, no distilleries 😕 and then off to the show
way more ordinary Billy Strings show, meaning it was incredible without the emotional announcement
Sunday one more stop at Bucees and drove home through the Great Smoky NP and chilled in the Oconaluftee River with nobody around
