Clemson ranked as the #23 Public University and #67 National
although usuck has moved up a tiny bit, they're still ranked far behind Clemson---chickenU is tied with UTenn at #46 Public University----they didn't make the Top 100 National Universities

I love how you guys are ranked in the 60s and still consider yourselves a top school. Very cute. I also find it funny that you guys make fun of Louisville's 75% acceptance rate while yours is over 50%. With those numbers, both schools have many smart kids and quite a few dumb ones.
By the way, being that Louisville is in a city of 1.3mm, about half of Louisville fans didn't even go to Louisville. It serves almost as a pro team, with heavy corporate interest from the F500 companies in the city. I went to Columbia, the Ivy League school in New York, not the one you are used to. Our acceptance rate is under 8%.

Because Columbia sports suck and I live in Louisville. Mainly pointing out: 1. You are in no position to call out Louisville for being a bad school when Clemson is pretty much the same. 2. Calling Louisville fans dumb because of the US News ranking of the school doesn't make sense....

You guys have an acceptance rate of over 50% full stop. In terms of admissions, outside of the top 30-36 schools it is pretty much pay to play. As an employer, unless the candidate graduated from a top 10-20 school, the school won't give any leg up (course work more important). For all practical purposes, state schools outside the top 50 are lumped together.

I remember a few years ago when a major sportscaster got into a lot of trouble talking about how the Lville basketball team was composed of 'low quality students'. That hasn't changed much!

Wrong again. Here in South Carolina a Clemson degree...

goes much further than a degree from South Carolina. An overwhelming majority of Clemson grads have good paying middle class jobs within a few years of graduation. Meanwhile tons of gamecock graduates have to go to a two year technical school to get an associates degree to get a job that pays above minimum wage.

The numbers you brought up prove that. Did you learn math at Columbia? And why are you bragging about a lame city in Louisville when you have an Ivy League degree? You got ripped off by Columbia if living in an STD infested city like Louisville is the best you can do. Oh do you, Petrino, and Pitino hook up for hooker night.

Lol... I moved to Louisville to do real estate development. Returns are high here and it's a growing city. I own property in Charleston too. That is the only city in SC that rivals Louisville from a cultural standpoint. I looked at Anderson, Greenville, your neck of the woods, and they are cultureless shitholes.

Sorry dude, it's highly likely that I'm much stronger than you. Not claiming I'm the strongest person or a bad ####, but I am much stronger than the average American male. I was skinny as a youth, and when I see people from my youth that haven't seen me in years they are surprised by how much muscle I have added over the years. So highly unlikely you could do anything to me if challenged me. Most likely I would just shove you to the ground and tell you take your loss like a man without even punching you.

it's just an internet message board. If you don't like me, then put me on ignore. And I go to all the home games. Plus you don't know what I look like, so how could you have ever seen me anywhere? You also made the same exact statement before under a different screen name. And I told you then that I was attending games long before you and was an IPTAY member before you. And I'm not an Alum, just a fan. If you want to see me so bad, tell me where your parking place is and I will be sure to go leave a few giant turds before you get there, then at least you will know how my ish smells. A912®

Clemson isn't an Ivy League school, but saying that it's a "bad school" and including UL in the same category is just ignorant.
You are also implying that there are really only 50 or so schools that "stand out" to employers in any way? If you really believe that then I hardly believe you went to Columbia because that might be the dumbest statement ever
In fact, maybe I do. Elitists tend to be stuck halfway up their own arses

Clemson is the 23rd rated school in as far as public universities . Louisville is 165th ? I'm no Columbia grad , but that comparison certainly makes me think that Clemson would be where I would go given the choice of UL and CU ...based on this single metric. Again , no Cola grad or whatever ...but I can discern between close and far away .

Louisville is ranked 87th in public schools compared to our 23rd. If you don't think that's a big difference maybe you need a refund for your big Ivy league degree.
Louisville's acceptance rate is 22% more than Clemson's, also not quite the "same."

Think of it like a pyramid. There are very schools at the top and each level below there are many more.
For practical purposes, no one really cares about rankings outside the very top tier.
There will be talented people from both schools, but the school itself won't do anything to differentiate you, sorry to say.

Think of it like a pyramid, there are "very" schools at each level. Unfortunately, Louisville is on a level lower than Clemson.
I graduated from Clemson and have a great career, so I don't really care if some employers differentiate on if you went to a "better" school. I tell those uppity people, including you, to #### off.

And Ivy League schools give nothing back to the communities or states they are located in..

Meanwhile Clemson gives back to the local community and the state by providing ingenious agricultural advancement methods, extensions in the low country that help with protecting the coastal areas and sustaining coastal wildlife, horticulture extensions throughout the state, a nursing program which is bringing more quality nurses into South Carolina's medical systems. We also give back to the country by providing new technologies for the military and government.
What does Columbia give back, other than stroking the egos of it's graduates? And why are you on this board, it's not a board representing a snobbish gives nothing back to the community Ivy League School?

Funny how you think a $20mm portfolio is equivalent to dating Rihanna and a swimsuit model. It's small to me. I'm planning on growing it substantially in the next 5-10 years. #smallman #smallminded
@tigerdave it's not small to me, it's small in the overall scheme of things. I mentioned I'm young and hoping to grow it substantially. Certainly not at Rihanna/ Bella Hadid status right now.

I went to The University of Chicago

You might see it there at #3, with an 8% acceptance rate. I can tell you that the people there laugh at places like Columbia with its grade inflation and middle-brow lack of intellectualism.
I also live in Chicago, a city of 12 million, where nobody cares about college football because they're too busy, and nobody would go down to a little slack-jaw hamlet like Louisville unless they felt the need to escape to the hinterlands. It's cute that you think anybody in real cities care about anything in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

How unfortunate for you

Your over priced "Ivy League" degree bought you nothing but smug arrogance and a vastly over- exaggerated level of self-esteem...obviously. ANYONE that goes on a college football discussion site and inevitably mentions his college credentials is without doubt over-compensating.
Your "Ivy League" bona fides don't impress here pal. As a matter of fact, in these days and times, it indicates all the more that you have been severely mis-educated and programmed rather than taught critical thinking skills....just another progressive automaton.

Columbia's undergrad student enrollment is only 8400 which makes it smaller than College of Charleston. It is obviously going to be more selective given it has less than half the number of seats as Clemson which is up over 18,000 undergrads now. Clemson also has to take 65 percent or so in state students while Columbia as a private can take as many out of state students as they want.

The MSA and CSA include other cities in the region, including in Indiana, to get to that number. The CSA is a just little more populous than Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson. The MSA is smaller than Raleigh and maybe 40% larger than Greenville, etc, but Greenville is growing at almost double the rate of Lewisville.

Most employers view the large 'flagship' state universities and land grant universities the same. In general it is a good idea to go to a college in the region that you want to live in after graduation because there will more alumni of your college in hiring positions.
It is obvious US News rankings are silly when very similar universities to Clemson like Oregon State and Iowa State are ranked much lower.

Ask 100 Employers Which Degree is Worth the Most

Clemson, Oregon State, or Iowa State.
Yes, there would be some regional differences, but I'd almost guarantee you NATIONALLY Clemson would get 50% of the votes. Maybe 60-70%. This is across ALL majors (on average)... certainly if you nitpicked specific areas (for example, Journalism) we'd rank lower than even schools ranked in the 170's overall.
Many people outside of the Southeast view Clemson like a Second Tier Private School... ala Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Furman, etc. In fact, many people think that Clemson IS a private school (especially outside of the Southeast). I'd say Clemson compares very much in the same breath as all of the public schools in the top 25 outside of maybe the top 5. If you get outside of states bordering the other public schools below #25 I think you'd have difficulty finding any place where a majority of people thought Public School >25 gives degrees worth more than Clemson.
Heck - I lived in Indiana for 5 years (which includes suburbs of Louisville) - and while I'd say they value Louisville more than most, I'd say many from Indianapolis and further north would prefer a Clemson grad over a Louisville one. And unless its Journalism they aren't going to touch a USCar grad if compared to a Clemson grad (all other things equal).

You didn't provide any evidence that most employers would favor Clemson over other large universities like Iowa State and Oregon State.
I am not sure how people who did not attend Clemson could claim it is better or worse than another college that they didn't attend. THat is like reviewing and comparing restaurants that you never ate at.
My father graduated with electrical engineering degree from SC and never had any problem getting a job.

Especially the part about most people thinking Clemson is a private school. Serves us as alums well. My Clemson undergraduate degree allowed me to go on to obtain postgraduate degrees from two top private schools - one of which is in the top 5 of the USN&WR ranking. I would put the rigor of Clemson's academics up against both.

Public universities generally have better reps than private colleges in engineering, architecture and business. And I don't think most recruiters think Clemson is private.
The only reason people think private universities are better is they are more selective but that is a function of them being so small and not required to take a large percentage of in state students.
