“The 1935 Clemson Tigers football team was an American football team that represented Clemson College in the Southern Conference during the 1935 college football season. In their fifth season under head coach Jess Neely, the Tigers compiled a 6–3 record (2–1 against conference opponents), finished fourth in the conference, and outscored opponents by a total of 147 to 99.”

September 21: For the sixth time in a row, Clemson opens at home against the Presbyterian Blue Stockings, winning, 25-6. P. C.'s only score comes late in the fourth quarter when P.C.'s Waldrep scoops up Junior back Winston Alten "Streak" Lawton's fumble at the Tiger 45 and races the distance. Seven thousand witness the win.

September 28: Clemson travels to Virginia Polytechnic Institute, wins, 28-7.

October 5: On Riggs Field, the Tigers defeat Wake Forest, 13-7. Clemson trails 6-7 at the half, but W. A. "Streak" Lawton returns a punt from the Tiger 30-yard line for the winning touchdown.

October 12: Clemson travels to Duke, but loses to Coach Wallace Wade's Blue Devils, 12-38.

October 24: Clemson shuts out the University of South Carolina, 44-0, in Columbia.

November 2: Clemson meets Mercer in Augusta, Georgia, winnning, 13-0.

“Nov. 19, 1935 – Clemson held its first night football practice. Two powerful floodlights were installed at the practice fields. The Clemson coaches wanted more practice time with the players and that was the reason the lights were brought in. The extra practice did not pay off however, as Clemson lost its final game that year to Furman, 8-6.”

“Henry Shore was the team captain. The team's statistical leaders included tailback Joe Berry with 422 passing yards and 457 rushing yards and fullback Mac Folger with 36 points scored (6 touchdowns).

Two Clemson players were selected as first-team players on the 1935 All-Southern Conference football team: tackle Tom Brown and guard Clarence Inabinet.”

With the 44-0 win over the Gamechickens, Clemson’s record vs the Chickens improved to 21-11-1. It sure seems like a lot of those 21 victories have been shutouts!
