No surprise! Caldwell needs to step it up or retire.

The problem here is that Miller is very much a "Clemson-type" kid...very good kid, very good family, religious background. He was ours for the taking but per some folks close to the situation he got absolutely outhustled by everybody...we were probably a distant fourth or fifth in this recruitment and that just ain't OK for a kid of this profile just down I-85 from Clemson.
Nobody is arguing that Caldwell isn't a good coach. He absolutely is. But he's not getting it done on the recruiting trail either and that's at least half the job in modern college football. That is the criticism, and the concern here.
This one rankles. We need to win these kind of battles, especially for a kid that's going to play it clean in his recruitment, and Miller did.

Miller is the kind of lineman we need to keep this train moving. If we don’t pick it up in OL recruiting, Trevor Lawrence will be running for his life in 2019 and 2020.

All of this is quite worrisome. The only position (offensive line) that concerns me in recruiting. The other side of the coin is our Oline has only let us down (what?) once in the last three years. Hopefully, another case of " In Dabo We Trust".

Is the fact that Robbie Caldwell is 64 years old and close

to retirement perhaps more of a factor in recruits decision making than his low-key recruiting style?
Rival recruiter's would have to be leaning heavily on Caldwell's age when competing for the top OL guys.
Even if it's not always true, recruits usually want to at least *feel* that they'll play for the same guy their whole college career when they commit.

Urban Meyer is only 53 ... I think he'll retire from OSU.

Maybe he retires early, maybe not ... but I don't think he'll make the same mistake Spurrier made with his announcement that his retirement was imminent.
And at least psychologically, the very top recruits like to *believe* they're looking at a 3-year college career rather than five.
