No fault of Clemson, but we are well beyond pathetic as a conference. We have a good, even potentially great team, but keep in mind that most of our wins are against horrible teams. When people compare this team’s record against other Clemson teams and seasons - there is an asterisk. Those teams played against great teams and depth. A win in the ACC meant something back then.
This teams legacy will only be built around the NCAA tournament.
Comparing, ACC, SEC, BiG 10, Big 12
I knew it was bad to start the season, but it has only gotten worse, much worse.
ACC, 28 quad 1 wins, 30 quad 3 losses, 12 quad 4 losses.
Sec, 102 quad 1 wins, 1 quad 3 losses, 1 quad 4 losses
Big , 97 quad 1 wins, 15 quad 3 losses, 0 quad 4 losses
Big 12, 84 quad 1 wins, 4 quad 3 losses, 0 quad 4 losses.
I never in my wildest dreams (nightmares) would have ever thought the ACC basketball could be this bad.
The ACC has been dropping for years, but have had a top heavy result which gave the facade that the ACC was stronger than it really was.

The SEC decided baseball and basketball must be upgraded along with women's basketball and they are spending to insure that happens. Concentrating on the major sports. Europe can have soccer it's not American and lacrosse doesn't move the needle with anyone.

Soccer is actually pretty fun to watch to be honest. So is hockey. I live in MN and the Xcel Center was sold out for the high school hockey semis and finals. Really good action packed games.

It's pretty incestuous, though.
Why don't you show quad 1 losses for each league?
The ACC quad 1 losses should also be much lower.
Because if 2 quad 1 teams play each other in conference, then they are guaranteed a quad 1 win for the conference...
League is bad because very few of our teams are quad 1, so when there is a game in league it's a quad 2 or 3 win, not a quad 1 win.
Yes, the league didn't do great out of conference, but it's not as bad as your numbers suggest.

You claim we were not good. Some years we weren’t. But also, many we were. We just happened to be not as good as some great teams - when the league was a monster. Thus, if you finished .500 in the league, you made the dance. If you really followed basketball,you would know that.

Your continued use of LF rings hollow when you can’t address facts. Your obsession of arguing anything that is factual, yet you don’t like, gets a post like this from you.
Only you would try and defend the quality of the ACC. The facts, media, fans, and anyone that has any clue of what basketball is, know that this ACC is not even a shadow of prior eras. Only a few of you would even try to compare them favorably.
And I have no clue as to what your rant about Duke was about. I am pretty sure that Duke fans are knowledgeable enough to know that the current state of the ACC is horrible (unlike you).

I’ll defend the conference as well. First of all, in the 38 or so years I have followed Clemson, it is a tad bit absurd to suggest this year’s team should have an “asterisk.” Perhaps some have forgotten just how mediocre Clemson basketball has been. Remember that great Tarhole team from, I think 2001-2002? They won like 8 games all year. They were historically bad. They were bad even for a non “blue blood” school, but for them, that’s like 1998-99 Shamecock football level bad. Two of those eight wins were against . . . you guessed it. Clemson. Clemson could not beat them even that year. Additionally, I have watched “good” Clemson teams lose to average/bad ACC teams over the years, especially on the road. This year’s team went 9-1 on the road in the ACC. The ACC could add Chapman, Landrum, and Polk County High Schools to the conference, and it would still be an amazing feat for Clemson to lose only ONE ACC road game.
Also, the conference isn’t near as bad as you suggest, especially if you judge by the only metric that seems to count for you: the NCAA Tournament.

A National Championship would be historically revered and an iconic season. 1/3 have been ACC teams in the last 9 Tournaments.
Please tell me how that is “bad” by any measure. Would it translate to other decades in ACC basketball lore? Probably not compared to the 1980s-90s, but it is pretty dang good, and for Clemson to win 9 away games and potentially 90% of their conference games in one season would be the best in school history, as far as I am concerned.

I appreciate your facts. However, there in absolutely nothing about years ago data that defends how bad the league is this year.
ACC got killed in the ACC/SEC challenge. Not even a fair fight.
The quad 3 and 4 losses are clear.
The asterisk is when people start claiming this is the best ever. I was at Clemson from 77-81 and have also seen a lot of good and bad. The depth for many of the years was so tough that winning 50% of your league games got you an invitation to the dance. This year, only 3 teams have a pulse. As you have been around, I don’t see how you can defend this ACC. But, we all are entitled to review facts and stats and make our own opinions. I continually state we have a very good and potentially great team. But I also say that beating bad teams is not making this team the best team of all time. We had some really good teams a few years, but we played some great teams. Some years , your goal was to win your home games in the ACC. Playing each of them home and away.
You and I simply disagree regarding depth of the ACC. Fine. Not an issue for me.

I've been away for awhile. So, it seems that the Negative Nancy's can't complain about the Men's Basketball team and CBB anymore, so now it's time to complain about the conference as a whole! Why not just be happy with what you've got? B-ball is good. Baseball is good. Softball is good. Tennis is good. Football is good. Gymnastics is good (Oh, but those are women and don't count...right? Eventhough they've sold out LJC 2 seasons in a row!) Golf is good M&W. Did I miss any?

I think Louisville is the weak link in your post.
The ACC problem is clearly depth. Only 3 teams had a pulse. Tough to get prepared for the dance when you are playing bad teams all year (even if you are really good.). Also why Duke plays strong OOC schedule.

Sadly, the ACC was objectively worse in 2022/23 when so many think we were “robbed” despite losing to a Louisville team that might have been the worst power conference team in the history of the sport (it was the worse Louisville team in 111 years of basketball by a good margin).

In 10+ years the ACC is unlikely to exist or will be a D2 equivalent and people will absolutely know that it had to do with the rapidly waning quality of the conference. That has nothing to do with how much a Clemson fan would enjoy winning a title in the moment.
