I have a good accountant and someone at work that is good with the books. But I don't know all the IRS laws.
It is more than 1,000,000 words long.
Just because you file the EZ doesn't mean you are off the hook. Remember their stated goal was to track all accounts greater than $600.
If you have a deposit in your bank account that did not come from a taxed resource like a paycheck you better be able to explain it. They are going to assume that you had a yard sale or something and they want their third of that $300 deposit.
The IRS does not have to prove guilt, you have to document and prove your innocence. Lawyers and accountants are expensive, they know this. They also have unlimited resources compared to you.

Something tells me you may be wrong, but the over-riding question is where the hell is the IRS going to come up with 86,000 people that can actually add and subtract? These may be English majors who are working as baristas and may soon be laid off because many people can no longer afford Starbuck's coffee.
They'll get a refresher course on Turbo Tax and then sent on their way to harass low- and middle-income earners. GOD ... what a great country!

Doesn't take an expert to see where Biden lowering the reporting requirement for cashflows through online processors like PayPal and Venmo to $600, and the hiring of all these agents who will need something to do. Of course, there will be more audits of high income earners (it's where the big rewards are), but Democrats are going to need blood from a stone to fund their massive spending bills and low-income independent contractors (Uber, DoorDash, etc.) are going to be the first thrown on the pyre.
