Their situation is not very stable either. Louisville was one of their top targets. They need 5 more teams to become a "super conference." I guess they can add a few more Texas teams. The only thing holding that conference together is Texas, and they lord it over everyone. If UNC left the ACC, I think most of us would be grateful. We have plenty of basketball schools, and the devil would have left his post.
Who is to say that the Pac 12 isn't looking to take the TX and OK pie to get to 16? The Pac 12 has been very quiet. It seems inevitable that the last super conference will be the cream of the ACC and Big 12 remaining after the other conferences take their picks. The question is what will the league name be, and how much less money will it make?
I think 5 conferences is better than 4 so you can have the 8 team playoff with automatic bids and a few wild card teams voted in. That way, every conference champion gets a shot, and we still have these dumb debates on which teams and conferences get the extra spots. The problem is that espn is making the financial gap so big that fair competition is no longer a possibility.
