There is no #57 for Clemson this year so I will go back and choose a player I haven’t covered yet.
So todays player spotlight is #97 Patrick Swygert. He is a redshirt sophomore defensive tackle for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.
Patrick “Joined Clemson as a walk-on in 2023 … enters 2025 having played two defensive snaps in two game appearances”. He “Elected to walk on at Clemson over offers from The Citadel, Anderson and Newberry”. He is majoring in human capital education and development.
He was “Two-time all-state honoree at tight end while playing both sides of the ball at Batesburg-Leesville (S.C.) High School.”. Patrick was on the Clemson scout team in 2023. Then in 2024 he “Played two defensive snaps in two game appearances … made Clemson debut vs. Appalachian State … saw action vs. The Citadel.”.

Todays spotlight will be another double feature since there are 2 players who wear #56.
So our first spotlight will be on #56 Champ Thompson. He is a redshirt freshman defensive tackle for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.
Champ was “Ranked as the No. 288 overall player in the nation by PrepStar … also ranked as 53rd-best defensive lineman in the country and 55th-best player in Georgia by PrepStar … listed as ESPN’s 19th-best defensive lineman in the class and the outlet’s 39th-best player in Georgia … rated 29th at his position and 46th in Georgia by Rivals … helped Gainesville to a 12-1 record in 2023 … credited with 36 tackles, 7.5 sacks and four pass breakups … played for Josh Niblett at Gainesville … played previously at Meadowcreek, where he was a second-team all-county and first-team all-region selection for its playoff team in 2022 … added 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks as a junior … caught two passes for 11 yards offensively that year including an eight-yard touchdown reception vs. Berkmar … three-time team captain … also played basketball at Meadowcreek.”.
He “Joined Clemson in its 2024 recruiting class”. In his debut season with Clemson in 2024, Champ was “Credited with three tackles in 41 defensive snaps over three games while redshirting … made two tackles in collegiate debut vs. Appalachian State … credited with one tackle vs. The Citadel.”.
“(Champ’s) father, Michael, was an offensive tackle and a fourth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2000 NFL Draft … finished his prep career at the same high school as All-American Deshaun Watson … committed to Clemson Jan. 28, 2023 … enrolled at Clemson in January 2024 … sociology major … completed a microinternship with Def Jam Recordings in spring 2024.”.

Here is his Hudl profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/17391717/Champ-Thompson
Here is his instagram: https://www.instagram.com/champ.t7/
Here is his twitter: https://x.com/iam_champ7 Our second spotlight goes to #56 Watson Young. He is a redshirt freshman offensive lineman for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.
Watson was “One of five finalists for Mr. Football in South Carolina in 2023 … helped Daniel to a 51-1 record in his four years as the Lions’ starting left tackle … helped Daniel to three state titles in four years and four straight Region 1-AAA championships … SCFCA All-State honoree in 2022 and 2023 … named to the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team in 2023 … named Region 1-AAA Lineman of the Year and Pickens County Courier All-County Player of the Year … earned 2022 Palmetto Combine Upper State Best Junior Offensive Lineman and collected Palmetto Combine Series West Top Offensive Lineman honors for 2023 … named MVP of the 2023 Under Armour/ESPN Camp … 2023 District Strength Champion among heavyweights … All-Atlantic Region selection by PrepStar, which ranked Watson as 15th-best player in South Carolina … listed as ESPN’s 13th-best prospect in South Carolina … ranked No. 24 in South Carolina by 247Sports … played for Jeff Fruster at Daniel … was also a three-year letterman in baseball at Daniel.”. He “Hit .237 with 3 HR and 18 RBI as a sophomore per MaxPreps.”.
He signed with Clemson in 2024 but unfortunately he suffered a knee injury before the 2024 season that sidelined him for the whole season. He should be healthy now though. So here’s hoping he gets some playing time in 2025 and starts developing into a great player.
Watson “Became the first fourth-generation Clemson football player on record … son of former Clemson All-American and three-time Academic All-American Kyle Young … Kyle played for the Tigers from 1998-2001 and was also a two-time All-American on the field as Clemson’s starting center across the 1999-2001 seasons … Kyle, who is in the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame and currently works as an Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Clemson Athletics, was the center for legendary Clemson quarterback Woodrow Dantzler … Watson’s uncle, Will Young, was an offensive lineman at Clemson from 1992-95 and was an All-ACC selection in 1995 … his great grandfather, Ed McLendon, lettered in 1939 and played the first bowl team in Clemson history that earned a 6-3 win in the 1940 Cotton Bowl … his grandfather, Ben Watson, was a linebacker at Clemson from 1968-70”.

Todays player spotlight is #48 Charlie Reed. He is a redshirt freshman kicker for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.
He is a “Former Tiger soccer player and brother of Tiger offensive lineman Ian Reed.”. He was added to the team on Jun 30th.
In high school Charlie played both soccer and football. He punted, did kickoffs, and kicked field goals for Vandegrift High School.
Here is a few quotes from an article on ClemsonWire about Charlie joining the team: “The Tigers haven’t locked in a punter for 2025, and the spring did little to clear things up. Returning redshirt junior Jack Smith and walk-on Will McCune split time trying to win the job during spring practice, but neither separated himself when it mattered. Smith averaged under 40 yards per kick in the spring game, and McCune only had one punt, which traveled exactly 40 yards. Meanwhile, placekicker Robert Gunn has also been used as a backup option.”
“With so much uncertainty, Reed’s arrival gives the coaching staff another candidate to evaluate when camp opens. Even if he doesn’t take over as the full-time punter, adding another leg could push the competition and raise the standard for everyone involved.”
A few fun facts about Charlie is that he likes Mexican food and fishing.
