Did Louisville game change our program forever?

I don’t remember the last time I felt this as a Tiger grad and fan but the light of hope has gone out for the season. Is this true for the team? We didn’t just get beat we got traumatized out there. Will Dabo change concerning the portal?

Agree. Have posted this fact many times. A very sad day for me as an alum and life long Clemson fan when BV landed in Oklahoma.
He brought fire and intensity to the whole team. More involved on the sidelines for the entire game. Who else in CFB had to have a get back coach on the sidelines? A great coach and recruiter. Had a huge influence on Dabo. He probably worked harder than anyone on the team.

Hard to argue, the rise and fall of Clemson as a national power correlated directly to Venables tenure. The emperor has no clothes

Portal is not the real issue. The root issue is paying players. We could do very well from the HS ranks but it would require up front money which Dabo opposes. Our issue is a lack of talent to be elite regardless if the talent comes from the portal or HS. The amount of money elite teams are offering is simply too good to pass up. For us to climb back to the top tier, Dabo will need to offer up front NIL. Otherwise, we will not be able to compete with the best teams

^^^^This. Dabo has tried to use the portal, but not the way other teams

use it. The other teams are offering guaranteed money, basically boosters just paying players, making it look like third party deals.
And with high school players, it's giving guaranteed money to players you're just assuming are going to be good in college. They're leveraging their Name-Image-Likeness from high school.
Dabo is reluctant to go all in on that. Should we?

Quit with the misinformation. There is no evidence Dabo has made an HONEST effort to better his roster through the portal. The oh they gotta love you back BS is just that. Think what you want and I will too,
To the OP, I agree with you for once. That felt like more than an unexpected loss. My small brain can’t put into words how dejected how feel. The hopelessness comes from the fact that Swinney just isn’t going to change. That would be admitting he was wrong. He doesn’t seem to like to do that.
The way recruiting is going, I can’t imagine how much further behind the roster will be in even a year. I think the only way out of what seems like a hole is paying up HS recruits, and getting help and depth from transfers. If he isn’t willing to do it, I don’t know why he is even in coaching anymore. Other than his massive salary. Honeymoon is over.

We Clemson fans often overlook the fact that the money required to succeed in a bidding war is not a static amount.
Each year, the ‘successful’ bid for a player increases faster than the rate of increasing funds to football team via the booster club and TV deal.
We can theoretically keep up with the big money SEC and B1G programs as long as they all don’t get serious about the ‘bid $’ that would make it impossible for the other conference’s teams that are not endowed with many extremely wealthy supporters of their athletic booster clubs.
Even now, Clemson must be highly selective with spending top dollar for any single star player. For those important players who are not superstar status, the big money programs can afford to pay bigger money than all but Miami and SMU can spend.
Therefore, with recruits (where Clemson hopes that the culture / ‘we nurture & develop our HS recruits instead of tossing them to the side for Portal players’ will get top end HS recruits to choose us. Then, AFTER the HS recruit proves himself to be a star, we try to be competitive with big NIL money.
We’re already missing out on a few top end HS recruits via this approach, but as long as we aren’t in a big TV deal payout conference, this is how it will go.
(Don’t ask me when or why thev SEC or B1G would clamor for us to join their cinference.)

The program will be fine. However, last Saturday may be the game that broke Dabo. Time will tell. I am pulling for Dabo but, he has go to make some changes.

It exposed the defense as soft and slow. And why they can’t block on FGs is a mystery.

It exposed some major holes in the program that exist. now. Special teams problem thatjust don’t get fixed. Poor run defense, which is lack of focus. Head scratching coaching hires, loyalty to players who really just can’t get it done. It’s all coming to ahead a head

We're in a situation that we are having to use cheaper parts...and cheaper in quality.....compared to what we were used to getting for our machine. Sometimes we can take a part and make adjustments and fabricate it....or rig it if you will... to make it perform at a high level.
Got to find some high quality parts that we can afford....or find some money that will allow us to buy quality parts consistently
