Daylight Savings Time

Ok, I hate changing clocks and routines every six months or so. For one, my dogs do not understand why meal times are disrupted. I am approaching old fart status, and I write my elected representatives each time change. Assuming we end the nonsense, should we stay on Eastern standard or stay with Daylight Savings? I will take your calls off the air.

Leave the clocks alone. Guess what....it's going to be dark some mornings, and it's going to be dark early some evenings. It is going to be light some mornings, and light some early evenings. It doesn't matter if you change the clock.

One problem. The world runs using time.

Lighten up on yourself. You are a long way from old fart status. Check out my class…i don’t consider myself an old fart yet.

Pick one and leave the dang thing alone. I prefer standard though.

The sun rise / sun set offsets make a lot more sense. With dst, Staying light out till 930 or so in the summer is absurd, especially when you have young kids. And on the flip, it wouldnt get light in the winter mornings till nearly 9:00.

The whole thing reminds me of the story of the old lady who kept cutting off one end of the blanket and sewing the piece on the other end.

I rermember going to an 8:00 AM class and watching the sun come up

the first year DST was started and went through the Winter months. Not real fun - also had a Monday evening class that started at 6:00 and was over at 8:30. Long day!

Being retired now I think I will set my clock up 2 hours so I will always be on MY daylight savings time. Everything revolves around my time now. I like daylight savings time.

I’ve been retired almost 2 years and don’t have much need for a clock. I normally wake up somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00 and on the days I’m going hunting I’m awake at 3:00. No clocks needed.

Set the clock to standard time and leave it alone. Why lie to yourself about the time. If you want to get up earlier or later, go for it. That doesn't change the time. The good Lord already gives us more daylight in the summer.

very few places get it past 9:00 and it isn't for long - it's a small trade off honestly

Is to make sure kids waiting on the bus aren't standing in the dark for safety reasons.

Other than that, it's extremely stupid. The list of countries who stopped doing it dramatically outweigh countries that still do it.

If you're actually approaching "old fart" status, you'll no longer need a clock. You'll eat at the same time, go to bed at the same time, wakeup and pee at the same time, get out of bed at the same time, etc. etc. Doesn't matter what the clock says. Been getting up without an alarm for years. I tell time by what's on TV and when kickoff happens. I look at a clock so I won't be late for work or church.

Speaking of "old fart status", you realize that today's generation no longer knows how to read a clock with a dial and hands? Kid stopped me on the street a few weeks back and asked the time. I showed him my watch (to test the theory). He just stared at it. Until I told him it was 12:15.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What we are about to change to is standard. We are currently in DST.

I hate DST. Not getting dark until 9pm in the summer is just stupid and abnormal. I'd much rather we stay with the standard time which is what we change to this coming weekend.

With that said I wish we'd move to a permanent DST of 30 minutes. Dark at 8:30 in the summer. Dark at 6pm in the Winter.

This seems like a quite reasonable compromise - strike the balance in the middle.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ONE time rollback adjustment of 30 minutes and leave it.

No one needs daylight at 8:00 pm in the summer. A little daylight in the winter mornings, but not nighttime at 5:30 pm.

But the world would need to agree, that'll never happen.

States could do this now if they wanted on an individual basis. Several states have permanent time.

I remember when we first got daylight savings time - and I could stay out and play until bedtime. It was the best !!

I like sunshine - and the ability to enjoy as much of it as possible in my life.

Change your clocks and stop your caterwauling.
