Dabo and Belichick

I think their situations illustrate that having an All World QB really enhances how you are perceived as a coach.
I don't think anyone would argue that Clemson's results have gone down a bit since TLaw16 left for the NFL.
The Patriots ... did Belichick forget how to "coach'em up" ?? He's the same coach, he just doesn't have Tom Brady.
Andy Reid's playoff record was abysmal ... until he got Patrick Mahomes.
All of this to pose the question ... Does Clemson have an "All World QB" on the horizon ? Clemson probably makes the playoffs with Jayden Daniels, agree ?
The QB position is super critical ... a great amount of time should be invested in recruiting one.

Agreed mostly....but Clemson and NE have other issues besides QB that have caused their slide. As with TL16, give him a good OL and an elite WR core and see what happens....

Yeah... I think you can say that about literally any coach that has a generational talent at QB. I don't think this is special for any coach.

Belichick is a terrible evaluator at offensive skill positions

He cannot draft skill players, their WR drafting is laughable and the worst in the league.

He had a reputation for picking up has been free agents cheap and having them produce well above average for a season or two.
Maybe it was his system.
Maybe players were willing to play cheap to get a shot at a ring and maybe you can attribute that to Brady.
AFAIK none of Belichik's assistants have been able to duplicate his success.

It makes sense though, he’s a defensive guy. Hes only had 2 seasons in the last 20 where his defense was outside the top 10 in the NFL, that’s just insane.
I think it just goes to show that who you hire makes all the difference in the case where a certain side of the ball isn’t your expertise

It's a team game.
No way you can over estimate the importance of the QB position.
But if Potter had somehow found eligibility for another season...that's have been pretty great too.

Football has changed when Watson played I knew we would win every Saturday. Great talent makes coaching easier.

No doubt, the QB position is a must.
However, they need protection, and they need long, lanky receivers.
Oh, and without a salty defense,...........uh, I think you know what I mean.
Oh yeah, a good field goal squad can really help.
I could go on.

If you will remember, Dabo made comments about DW and TL arrived at Clemson ready to play having played a similar system in high school. No other QB came that didn't need 1 or 2 years of learning the college game. To me this is clearly the difference between 2016 and 2018 season results.

I honestly don’t think Vizzina is the guy either. I don’t know much about Herbert. I wish we could find about DW4. Sadly with the current CFB climate, we may never get a QB like that again…unless they grow up a huge Clemson fan. Give me 8 more years and I’ll have my boy ready lol

You’re on the right track. DJ and Cade were both top of their class, but did not live up to the hype. Cade still has potential, but he’s no DW or TL. Without a “generational quarterback”, Dabo appears to be just an above average coach.

Bellicheks draft hits and salary cap usage used to be elite. Also knowing other teams pkays make your defense pretty good.
