Clemson 2023 Defense

What do you think the tigers starting defense will look like next season?

but if we stay healthy (like, less injuries than either of the last 2 years) I actually think we'll be better.

For one, we return more experience at the corners and safety that last year, Makuba (healthy and in his normal position will be a big difference) and I feel really good about Linebackers and I think the D line returns plenty of experience and lots of potential energy with some freshman.

Again, I think it all hinges on health. We need a run of good luck after 2 really rough years of injuries.

I totally agree. Your post is right on! I think the freshmen impact will be huge. Plus, we have to remember that Coach Eason only had one year with those guys. Mukuba definitely played in the wrong position all year. It’s time for him to get back to that true safety position. I personally am a big fan of Mickens. Idk if it’s consistency or whatnot but I’d like to see him out there more. Seems like he’s always in the right place at the right time. We need to see that Terrell/Mullen, Goodrich/Booth strong corner combo we have had in the past.

I tend to agree with you guys assessments. There will not be a talent drop off on D. I also think Wes gets better in his second year.

I want to see him take advantage of our athleticism by blitzing more and also giving different looks to the offense. I honestly think he would benefit from being in the booth...

Corner - Jones and Wiggins
Safety - Makuba and Phillips
LB - Trotter, Carter, Woodaz
DE - Thomas, Mascoll, (Woods replaces Mascoll eventually)
DT - Page and Davis

Wouldn't be surprised if he and Phillips end up splitting reps. He's going to be hard to keep off the field.

Ruke will start over page. Its a solid 4 man rotation at DT tho. Certainly a few of the FR DL will avoid a RS, Woods, Parker, and Burley more than likely. As long as XT can give us 1 healthy season this Defense will be top tier. The lil he played year he was living in the backfield.

The DT position is probably as good as any in the country! The LB's are close to the best, the DE's are good, it will be the backend that determines just how good the defense will be!

Having a functional offense that puts consistent drives together is going to make the defense look much better overall.

Imo Jones and Phillips are going to get passed by Sophomores who are more talented. Lukus has the body and tools to be a legit lockdown corner and Covil Jr is the replica of Brian Dawkins I’m telling you now that kid is going to be a star. I hope it gets recognized and he gets playing time this year but if he doesn’t due to seniority he’s going to transfer.
