would have the audacity to look out for him and his family’s future. How dare he. Doesn’t he realize he devalued my entertainment last night? YouTubeTV should offer me a discount this month for what I pay to watch a bunch a spoiled sissy’s pretend to play football which is barely even tackle anymore anyway. May as well start playing flag. Not to mention I picked Miami to win in the bowl pick ‘em at work.

...and if he blows out his knee then what? Who cares about the Pop Tart bowl? If he didn't wanna finish the game, he shouldn't have started it. You only get 1 chance to go pro and make enough money for the rest of your life. Next month nobody will care. NFL execs have signed dudes with criminal records, they'll probably be ok signing this guy knowing he was looking out for his future.

So, he didn’t care about the risk in the 1H because he wanted an individual record but he didn’t want to risk it by helping his team win in the 2H. Got it…

If he was looking out for his future and opted out of the game then most people would have understood. That's not what happened though. He wanted an individual award. So he plays long enough to get it then quits on his team. If he was worried about getting hurt before draft he would not have played at all. That's why people are coming down on him. Opt out is fine. Quitting mid game is not.

Then don’t play football. Any given day or even play could be it. Not sure why it has become a thing to sit out what used to be a reward for the team.
It’s like something is in the water come December and we are thinking about injuries.
We could cry “then what” on about anything. If you are scared to get hurt sit the whole year. Business decision on Cam’s part, but not one that I agree with, and that’s jmo.

his and his family’s future. Perhaps try first responder or law enforcement instead. I’m sure he’s made more in his couple years of college football than most can hope to make in a lifetime. Hopefully he’s been smart with his money and hasn’t blown most of it on cars and jewelry, since he’s looking out for his family’s future

The funny thing is you are paying his salary everytime you tune into watch.
I hope you are also as generous with your money to first responders and law enforcement since Cam Ward should be ashamed of himself for making more than those folks.

I never said he should be ashamed of what he makes, that’s our system and good for him. My post was in response to your OP about him not playing the 2nd half, obviously to avoid injury, bc he’s looking out for his family. If playing the last half of his college football career is too risky then perhaps he should seek a new profession.

I don’t think you understand how it works. If he gets hurt in a college game he’s never going to see a dime professionally.
He is a few months away from signing for millions of dollars with an NFL team, possibly as the number one pick.
And you think he should risk that for the Pop Tarts Bowl?

Selfishly wantlng to set a record was more important to him than helping his teammates win the ball game! He would rish injury to set a record, but not to help his teammates. How many of those TDs would he have without the help of his teammates!

Nobody cares about the pop tarts bowl. He played his heart out trying to get his team to the playoffs and they fell short.
What’s wrong with going after the record and them calling it quits and letting next years QB’s get the reps?
I can guarantee you none of his teammates had a problem
It’s just you old fat white men that want these players treated like slaves.

(A) plenty of us aren't old nor fat; (B) it would be irrelevant to the point if we were; (C) Slavery, either actual or metaphorical has absolutely zero to do with it. Observing the behavioral and social tendencies of the participants doesn't put them at our behest any more than it does when we criticize politicians, actors, singers, or other public figures.
(D) Those making this complaint are wholly justified, as they have at least some sense of loyalty, starting what you finish, being a reliable part of a team or organization putting for an effort towards a goal, and they understand that the zero-sum attitude exhibited over and against looking out almost solely for one's own self-interests and goals is a cheap, lazy, intellectually bankrupt, ignoble and anti-social excuse for a lopsided one in which the latter triumphs categorically over the former.
In a nutshell, your take and those like it are vapid trash, posing as defenders of noble individualism, rather than the blinkered selfishness they're really content to swallow.

People like you fail to make a distinction between the players livelihood and your entertainment.
Cam Ward is now playing football for a living. This fantasy that everybody plays for the good of the team in these bowl games is laughable.
Funny you don’t hear people complaining when a coach bolts on the team before a bowl game. Wonder why?

the distinction isn't lost on me. Much of my comments presuppose it. Again though, you have one aspect dominating categorically over another, and then accuse those who criticize the imbalance as not recognizing the one. All false.

Can you imagine a player at Clemson under Dabo being allowed to toss an All-In chip in the bucket with “but just for the 1st half” on the other side? Losing the game with that player already gone training for the combine would be better than to allow that stuff to become part of the culture.

It’s pretty easy to see that once there’s not much left to play for is when these players choose to step out. Been happening for decades but suddenly when a player decides to go for an ALL TIME NCAA RECORD first it’s proof that college football is ruined.

YOU should have a problem with that. You are spouting off that he’s looking out for his future and his family while also defending his attempt to set an individual record…and putting his future and family at risk to do so.
It is monumentally hypocritical and your inability to admit that seems to indicate some sort of personal connection to the situation…or a similar one.

I guess we have a different definition of what it means to be a hypocrite.
Pursuing an individual accolade before ending your college career in a meaningless bowl game is not hypocritical to me.
I’m sure his family, teammates and coaches were proud, but carry on with your holier than thou sermon on why these athletes should choose when and when not to play based on your standards.
