Can someone briefly explain the physics of knife sharpening?

I've been dragging these blades up against grindstones for years and I still don't understand why it works...
Isn't the method for sharpening a non-serrated blame the same as the method for dulling a non-serrated blade?

Haha, nice. This is for skinning animals. I'll leave Buzzpaw to do the human skinning.

I'll explain the fundamentals of friction and the resulting wear from it. If not then google might be your recourse.

I'm just saying that the same friction used to sharpen the knife is the same used to create its dullness, no?
For example, Buck recommends shaving forward against the grain. I'm just saying, if I wanted to dull a knife, would I do the same thing?
Is the "moderation" of the motion more important than the motion itself?

Thanks, did you have any thoughts you wanted to add to the matter?
I'll explore this Google thing but I want to know what you think.

Well, you start with a 50ish, over weight coot fan, you have to bend him over the table at just the right angle....
