But if it wants to survive it needs to act now and go to 20 first:
Give ND the ultimatum in or out. I will assume out so go get the best combination of good football/tv market there is left. Forget academics, forget basketball, forget olympic sports prowess etc: Probably needs to be a combination of these schools for 5. Assuming stay out of the far west because of travel would be awful.
-Oklahoma St (41st TV but good for FB)
-WV (good football and good geographic location for Cin, Louisville, PItt and Va Tech),
-Houston (8th largest TV),
-Cincinnati(was in playoffs 36th largest TV,
-Central Fla(18th largest TV),
- TCU and/or Baylor (Dallas is 5th largest TV and this would go well with Houston)
-has to be a combo of 5 of these 6 if No ND
But end of the day if this does not get you close to the amount of money per school the BIG 10 and SEC or getting then it doesn’t matter. Schools would need to be within 10M or less per school of the other conferences for any of this to matter or the football schools on the ACC need to peace out of the ACC.
I don’t care what happens I just do not want Clemson to be put in any more of a disadvantage than we already are when it comes to all this. Let’s not kid ourselves though the easy in conference schedule has helped us the last 10 years too.

and out west Wash, Ore, Ariz St, Utah, UNLV, Colo, Okla St, Kansas St, TCU, Houston

with UGA, Coots, and TN. With expansion, throw in UNC and/or FSU, and it's just as regional as it is now. And I miss the old days, and the old ACC too.

I agree that Clemson would have great regional interest in the ACC. For UNC , I cringe at the thought of not being in the same conference with dook. That would be a travesty.

prosperity with the ACC is to package the top football programs into one division and the rest in another. Add WVa and Cincinnati into the mix, then UCF and USF to sew up Florida, then Army and Navy for the added streaming and armed forces allegiances.
The past 10 years has delivered approximately 14 games per season, all year, that could be considered prime matchups for our TV media partner, and that includes 2-3 ND games on an ACC field. Outside of ND games, it's 12 - barely one game per week. That's why we're where we are now from a value standpoint.
If we were to put the 'football' programs together in one division (10 teams, 6 games each amidst), this number would expand to 30 games per season prior to any ND scheduling opps. (ND isn't coming full time. Not a chance.) That's a significant boost in value. Nobody is really watching the other games much anyway unless it involves your team, and that will still happen regardless.

FSU
Va Tech
West VA
UNC
NC State
Louisville
Pitt
Cincinnati
All the rest, including the other 5 newbies, would compete in a separate football division. Have two home and home crossover division games, then one additional game where each lower division team plays @ an upper division school, which would take the place of today's Troy, UConn, and otherwise G5 slot.
We stay geographically sound. We have an excellent field of Olympic sports schools, and the upper division football schools see their media rights deals climb significantly. Our schedules and attraction would be as vibrant as anyone's.

1. They just joined the Big 12, so unless they dissolve, they aren't joining up.
2. They are NOT a big brand. Bigger than Wake maybe, but not big enough to save our conference. They only draw around 30,000 to a game. That's sad. That's why they are not power five worthy. Good team but not consistently strong. They are in a huge market. So what? My guess mist people in Cincinnati care about the Bengals, not the Bearcats. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were more Buckeye fans living in Cincinnati than Bearcat fans. And Boston College is in an even bigger market. How's that helped us? GT is too. That doesn't mean the people living in those cities are fans of those programs. Like Rutgers in NYC. Geez most people in NYC could care less about college football. I realize that the ACC might not can do any better. But adding Cincinnati, or central Florida, or east Carolina bring no credibility to the conference. It's really a joke. Y'all add Texas, and we see your Texas and raise you a.... Cincinnati? Come on.

Clowns on here clamor to add them to the league. Its as ridiculous for cincy as it was for boise, ucf, houston, hell some of these clowns on here even wanted uconn a few years back when they had their flash in the pan season.

They are not a top echelon program but they are working as hard as anyone to get there, and a CFP berth and road win vs ND (who they beat out for the 4th spot), plus 9 NFL draft picks, says something good is brewing there for the longer term.
They would be an improvement on our schedule over Wake, BC, Syracuse, UVA, and Duke, and equal to Louisville. You could say the same for all the top programs in the ACC. They would provide an incremental boost short term, with long term prospects. If we had a second tier football division, they could get replaced if they weren't delivering.

He's missing the point. It's not the number of teams in a conference but which teams are in that conference. You can go out and add just to add but you will still be 40 million dollars, at best, per year behind the SEC and B1G. Quality not quantity.

That's what separating the ACC's football powers from the rest and adding in a few for balance and geographic control achieves. Quality via quantity.
BTW, Cincinnati's game at ND last year out-eyeballed USC at ND by close to 1 million viewers. Cincinnati drew a bigger TV audience than the B1G's new entry, USC. Somewhat bigly.

Also I was just trying to get to the point that if the ACC is serious about trying to save itself it has to do something now. Assuming no ND and no SEC or BIG 10 School Would leave their conference then this is about all they could even try. It at least makes the TV deal have to be re-worked. I think best thing is for Clemson to leave but was just talking about what the ACC only option to survive is.

No new schools would sign away their GOR until 2036, especially the way things are changing with TV contracts. The ACC is pretty much dead.
