Dang! Really enjoyed watching Pride play and he stepped up a bunch last year when we were riddled with injuries. Hard to keep solid players like this when you bring in a bunch of superstar freshmen like we had this year. Best of luck to him.

Yeah, but he'll make some team a lot better. This one hurts because he'd be 2 deep and possibly earn a starting role. Yeah, this stings. He missed a couple plays this season but even the best did. He's one injury away from starting... don't get it. He sticks around, we develop him. I have a bad feeling in my stomach this transfer may hurt. Dang.

It’s all about playing time. He sees true fresmen that are better and he will only get PT through blowouts or injuries. It’s a win-win. Pride goes somewhere where he can start and Clemson keeps their better players. Don’t blame Pride or Clemson. The time where we could keep better backups than most team’s starters has passed.

The scared of competition comment is so short sided in today world of College Football. Very few kids from East St Louis are going to stay somewhere as a backup competing for playing time with little to no NIL money when they can transfer somewhere else and make money. Unless you are a star at Clemson it is tough to turn down the money. We also need the scholarship spot so it works for both parties

Clemson player from before the NIL and transfer era, he asks them what would be different if they could have transferred. Every interview I have heard from players says the system is broken. Many of the players that had a hard first couple years says that in their immaturity and desire for satisfaction now that they probably would have transferred and are glad they didn't really have a choice.

Per my post above, he'd have been great here too. Who knows what really happened but he was getting plenty of playing time next year if he wanted it bad enough. Not all develop the same. Some ball as freshmen because there's no pressure, then have sophomore slump when they try to take a bigger step. I know Dabo hates to lose this one. Grad students one thing. Underclassmen really hurts.

Agree with you, in that T.Pride was a valuable player who showed his stuff very well.
I wonder if his missed tackle on NC State’s WR Concepcion (who caught the short pass and ran ~ 80 yards for the TD after Pride’s missed tackle) created an exaggerated negative reaction from M.Reid (or Dabo, or Goodwin, or all three) that led to Pride subsequently hardly ever getting any snaps over the final 4 games.
IMO, his ‘permanent’ benching following NC State game was a mistake.
It’s all over now.

When was the last time anyone transferred and had it pan out? (Charleston was the only one I can think of that ever started anywhere)
Seems like even the 4* and 5* type guys never land on their feet, much less end up contributing.

Well, a couple of the DBs that transferred out had issues off the field, spent time in the love shack etc. That happens occasionally. And most of our transfers weren't in line to start the next season.

If there is any position that doesn't worry me if someone transfers it is at CB's. Coach Reed is the best position coach on Clemson's staff. Just 2 years removed from having 2 CB's 1st team All-ACC , he developed Wiggins into a 1st rounder and has Aveion Terrell playing as a possible future All-ACC or All-American pick. Who would have guessed after last year's game against Wake that Wiggins would be a top CB pick in the upcoming NFL draft? If there is any coach on Dabo's staff who has the potential to be a good Head Coach it's Reed. Look at his total resume, the talent he has recruited and developed. It obvious other coaches know it because he's always being contacted about other jobs. Coach Reed is definitely one of Dabo's best coaching hires.

He absolutely has. Nate had sophomore slump as I posted above. TP good freshman year. Missed a bad tackle in state game to a great receiver. So why I said in my post, this one stings. I think TP had an excellent chance to be next year's Nate. My statement is no indictment on the coach. He absolutely deserves a raise.
By all accounts TP is a good kid. His experience will absolutely hurt our depth.

Really sorry to see this. Toriano is a wonderful young man and a great football player. He comes from a terrific family. I am sure he will land on his feet and have a stellar year next year. I am sorry it will not be in a Clemson uniform.

So he gets passed by a talented freshman. Part of life is learning to compete. Fight like hell to get the position back. Improve yourself. These boys want a free ride and don’t know how to compete. Instead they take the easy way out because the grass is greener (until you get there).
For him and many of these boys who want immediate gratification, good luck because life isn’t going to give you everything you want without setbacks.
