the $1,125,000 buyout is only applicable if the University terminates Coach Lee, without cause, during their first year of his contract, the likelihood of which is remote at best. The buyout decreases each successive year.

No need to give a guy who really very few are going after that kind of buyout.
Just like Brownell's deal, it is just a poor business decision.
Probably it will not come back to haunt us, but you never know.

becasue the University has no intention of terminating either of them, without cause, over the next couple of years. If, for some unknown reason, the University was forced to terminate either of them for cause, the buyout would not be applicable.

I would suggest you watch your replies. I have owned a small consulting and publishing business in the past and if you have a problem with Drad's contract then address your concerns directly. I see no problem with the key clauses of either document.

Much about negotiating contracts at division big boy schools.
What is your experience?
I have none, but thinking about it logically, this could have been a demand by lee so he wouldn't be fired after a horrible 1st year. Clemson could have been thinking we are going to give you 4 no matter what so This clause is pointless to argue over.
