he made in hiring Streeter as OC and Wes as DC. This set our program back but we are with Revenue sharing also in place now on our way back up. We will have to have a great 2026 recruiting class along with using the portal in a bi if way to keep up in 2026.

Not quite. Hiring Thomas Austin was the first big mistake. Streeter really didn't have much of a chance. Luke was finally the fix there along with a certain qb that moved on. The jump from analyst to DC was certainly a head scratcher.

Wes was a major mistake. He hadnt played and didnt have a fire or demanding nature. Looking back the D regressing in going from Coach V to that was no surprise. I'm sure he was a nice analyst but he was no in your DC

Wes’ weaknesses and he was basically invisible. Wes would have been fine as a position coach with some “ X game coordinator” role/title. He also needs a better mentor than anyone on that staff.

I don’t think those were the two biggest mistakes - the program had a TON of change and I don’t think he hired incapable people; I think there’s a ton of variables that are pretty tough to account for.
NIL/portal changed everything Venables leaving changed everything Thad Turnipseed leaving changed everything Losing OCs changed everything A bad Covid class changed everything
Goodwin/Streeter are victims of all of that change. Dudes who were thrust into places that they couldn’t possibly succeed in.
Coach has made a ton of positive changes as we’ve gotten acclimated to post-COVID CFB. I’m confident this new formula is gonna yield continued success (10+ win) in this new era.
I think the biggest ? Is gotta come from recruiting now. We’ve lived and died on the backs of “generational” quarterbacks and we have a big ? On who’s gonna take the reins after CK2 is playing for the Jets.

In today’s college football, one bad season will get you fired as a coordinator. Wes first two years were not bad. For what reason we couldn’t stop the run this year hurt him and we lost mukba who became a super star in Texas. Number suffered and he is gone. I’m sure there are other internal reasons he got fired but I don’t think he was a disaster. We won the ACC title. But I’m glad for the changes. Allen will be measured early.

And so it changes for all programs but maybe not evenly year to year..and even the now flying high Dawgs will have their day as we saw Bama come down a notch or two.
Saying, this is what makes life interesting and one must say it got boring for most when it was Saban & Bama year after year!
Guess what, he’s gone and having fun speaking his mind for great $ and his former Tide Organization is trying to keep the normal cycle of tides at mostly low tides so to keep afloat and compete at high levels.

Riley needs to run his offense give Ohio State credit they give u a lot to think about on offense than just running Mafah up the middle got to be better than that if u want to contend for a Natty.

Kind of a perfect storm against us which started with recruiting in the Covid era which hurt our overall level of talent. Staff turnover then replacing them with Internal hires instead of best available was the next issue. Finally, Dabo’s envision to not offer recruits (HS and Portal) a competitive NIL package was the last corner of the trifecta. I believe Dabo learned from his mistakes and has righted the ship. 2026 maybe a setback as we lose many of differences makers after this season so the 26 class and ongoing engagement in the portal will be key factors.

Here's my thoughts on those events:

You can't leave a job open in football either on the field or on the coaching staff. Yeah, it's like any other company. If the type of guy you want isn't available then you fill in the blanks until you find the right guy for the job.
Under those circumstances you offer people who may not be exactly what you want by giving them the opportunity to grow. You make it clear to them that if you promote them and they fail you will have to replace them. Now I want you, please, to imagine your boss makes a move to another company and you're the guy who is given the offer to replace him. You worked for him for a couple years and you've always been eyeing the position and the money it brings.
What would you do? You know the HR firm at your company isn't going to demote you and return you to your previous position because your previous position required an immediate hire or promotion to fill. That starts a chain reaction within the company where a lot of people who were promoted or hired are greatly effected by your decision.
So you take the job and it's soon clear that you weren't ready for it. A couple years later, after the dust has had a chance to settle nobody in the company can breath because you're clearly not doing your job.
Dabo didn't have Brent, Jeff and Tony his first couple years. All three of them remained at Clemson long after the offers for opportunity started coming in.
I submit to all here that Dabo's situation demanded his hiring of Brandon and Wes under the conditions previously set forth here. The alternative would have been not to promote but to hire someone outside the program.
Imo, Streeter and Goodwin when in eyes wide open and Dabo hated that they failed more than either of them. It's really a shame, both are good men and I appreciate them giving us their best then coming up short of the mark.
There were no mistakes here. I would have done it exactly like Dabo.

It is a difficult decision to make when you hire a DC/OC from the outside when you have loyal assistants who have been on your staff for years.

Dabo is paid handsomely to figure those situations out. Making lazy promotions when there were literally hundreds of more qualified candidates was inexcusable. Those types of decisions would have been fireable offenses in the real world.

The other side of the coin is that every HC, DC, & DC had someone that believed in them that 1st time even though some people said they were not ready.

No , not in this instance. I have seen it on the HS level. I actually was passed over one time for an OC job because of my age/ experience ( I was 25). In the long run it paid off. I was more determined than ever and did every extra thing I could do to make sure I was ready for the next job. On the other hand, I have seen people completely uproot their families because they thought they deserved the job because they had seniority.

I kind of disagree. Those were hires that did not work out, but are all things that do not work out a mistake? In my opinion the answer is no.

My memory is Dabo had to hire Wes as DC or his defensive players were going to bolt.
