It's a natural fit. Should get a good 15+ years dollar leveraging there.

2.7 % ? Its a start when finalized but not sure worth taking a victory lap

10. India: 2.7% ($91.23 billion) India rounds out the top 10 US import partners, contributing 2.7% to total imports in 2024. The IT services, textiles, and agriculture sectors benefit greatly from Indian imports, highlighting the diverse range of top-quality import products coming from the country.

A win is a win and who is to say we can't get that number up? Appears we will and that is a thumb in the eye to China. China knows the potential of India. So much so they are pushing Pakistan into open war with India.

I agree it isn't a big number but one could argue this helps set India up as the heir apparent to China and gives us leverage in negotiations with them. Too soon to get overly excited about it though.

Exactly. A more traditional approach would have been to start negotiating

With Canada, Mexico, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, India, UK, EU etc. Get these trade agreements in place and then engage China.

Wrong.
A more ‘traditional’ approach would not have motivated our trading partners to act quickly, or to negotiate earnestly on the big items if trade.
Since very few Americans know little about professional level negotiations, they rely in what they’ve previously seen from government trade negotiations as being ‘the way to get it done.’ That traditional ‘way to get it done’ has been a disservice to America, but it was comfortable to us … because that is all that we knew.
Yrump’s approach to tariff negotiations has put tMost if the world off balance. This is a very good thing, although it can only be used once within a long interval of time.
To those who are attempting to cast shade on the successful India tariffs deal ‘because it is so small,’ before long we’ll see Japan tariff deal get closed.
What we are all witnessing is America in the process of winning. Big.

As always, the devil's in the details.
The thing to keep an eye on is the IP agreements, particularly in regards to pharmaceuticals. Big Pharma in the US has wanted to cut this pipeline off forever, and one of the big bones of contentions between the US and India has been the fact that they tariff our own high-end pharmaceuticals, and then manufacture a huge portion of the generics used in the US.
Donald is really, really fond of lining the pockets of Big Everything on the sly, often at massive cost to the US consumer, and then calling it a "huge victory for the US."
On paper this is a big win for us...but again, let's see if the agreement steps on the generics trade. If he tries to backdoor that in - and there's more than a few passing indications he will - it's actually one of the biggest losses the US consumer has taken in recent years.
The proof will be in the pudding.

Please share an example of where Trump-45 admin had sneakily done a trade deal to enrich a big company while simultaneously harming American citizens.
I could see where a policy to punish Chinese companies who use Uyghur slave labor to manufacture a product / key component of a product (I.e., big tariff on those products) … or in which a horrible polluting process is utilized to make the cost of production low … would lead to higher prices paid by American consumers.
Just one example would be fine.
Thanks.

Trump’s economic plan for America’s resurgence is multifaceted.
The facet you are reading about in this post (regarding India) makes trade fairer for America. The ball is being advanced down the field.
Other tariff deals will lead to more onshoring of manufacturing operations.

You are right, just a coincedence. Timing is interesting as we talk about India, trade, and this apple deal. But nothing to see here.
