Power 5 desirability ratings

Jul 15, 2022, 7:35 AM

I'm not a big Pat Forde fan, despise Sports Illustrated, and I don't know how they compiled this data. With that said there's some interesting ratings in this article.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Interesting, but agree "all sports ranking"

least important. But it also shows how we are being dragged down by performance in baseball and men and women's basketball.

That's a good article. I really think Football should carry more weight in the metrics.

Based on this ranking the most desirable 16 team conference outside of the B1G/SEC/ND is below. It would rank in comparison to the SEC/B1G using (Avg. rank/Total points). Easy to see the issues with television ranks. Also the value of ND (removing Baylor for ND brings us to (25.2 / 2337)). I would suggest taking Pitt over TCU/BYU/Baylor so the 8 teams from the ACC could exit the GOR.

B1G (24.6 / 2207)
SEC (24.9 / 2173)

New Conference (27.8 / 2500)
Clemson
FSU
North Carolina
NCST
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Miami
Washington
Stanford
Oregon
Arizona State
Utah
Oklahoma State
TCU
Baylor
BYU

New York to Chicago media ran sports from WWII to Nick Saban.
Therefore Big Ten and these trash football teams became the standard.

In my lifetime, I have never seen any of these teams beat a southern powerhouse and it not be a one-off win. Most of the games are by 20pts+.

Rant over. Tired of seeing these programs regarded so highly.

Don’t worry your dumpster fire second rate southern conference will soon be extinct and I don’t see the SEC needing two South Carolina schools .

And Clemson will still own the chicken’s on the gridiron.

In the short term yes long term you will fade like so many power that came before you

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well the chickens will never have to worry about fading

Jul 15, 2022, 9:16 AM

that's for sure.

Please go back and look at how much Clemson has been outspent in football compared to other CFP teams. On the other hand, how many years have the chickens been in the SEC with nothing to show for it? Clemson football is going to stay relevant. The university may have to drop some sports teams until the GOR is over to make it happen. IPTAY donation levels may have to be adjusted so that folks can adjust where their money goes. Whatever needs to happen will occur.

LOL. Sad sacks have been singing that song for thirty years now. Same broken refrain. Same ownership on the gridiron. Clemson isn't going anywhere but further up the charts, chief, deeper into the recesses of your and other sad sack psyches. The more you hate on us, the better.

Go Tigers.

The only metrics of merit on that list are football and viewership. If you think the SEC invited UT and Okie for Olympic sports or academics, you probably suffered head trauma recently.

Just another example of how statistics can be manipulated to support any point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As most are, it's a dumb ranking.

Jul 15, 2022, 11:13 AM

We all know football is king, but for some reason they decided to equally rank all of the metrics. Does anyone actually think that Alabama is 10th and LSU is 14th just because they have less stellar academics than say Wisconsin who is 7th in the overall rankings?

And even their "football rank" metric seems highly flawed - FSU is 56th, Cincy is 34th, and Iowa State (who has finished in the top-25 just 3 times since their program began in 1892) is 15th.

I think even simply looking at football / athletics budgets and/or branding metrics would provide a far better ranking than whatever they decided to do here.
