One of the many advantages

Of being a Tiger supporter is receiving the publications that are made available to those who truly invest in the university. In the most recent editions of “Orange The Experience” there is a great story written by Tim Bourret about one of the tenets of Clemson Football culture. Coach Swinney often uses a quote he is familiar with to fire up his team. This quote is also displayed in several of the units that make up the Tigers football complex.

The quote is “When you do the Common Things in life in an Uncommon Way you will command the Attention of the World.

This is a quote from an address given by George Washington Carver in 1923. Carver was a very well known agricultural scientist and is still remembered for his devotion and contributions to Agriculture in America. He was one of the very first Afro American scientist in this country.

What is interesting about this quote and it’s relationship with Dabo is Mr. Carver first used this phrase in 1923 in an address he made to the Clemson Cadets in the old chapel. A very rare occurrence to have a black man address a group of students in the Deep South one hundred years ago. About 1000 cadets attended this lecture exactly 100 years ago.
