I thought I heard that teachers have to be vaccinated. Then a teacher friend told me it’s not mandated. If I’m an unvaccinated teacher I don’t want to be around a whole bunch of vaccinated students who may be covid carriers and not show signs of sickness. I get it. It’s a personal choice. If you get sick for refusing to get vaccine then that’s on you. If you die then that’s on you. At the end of the day we all face the consequences of our actions.

Faculty walk out over just about everything. Tomuch tartar sauce on their fish stick, not enough tartar sauce.... the grass is too loud, there are moneys in the air-vents.... our Board of Trustees is a corrupt brainless group bowing to the sycophants the governors likes and so it goes. Maybe the last one will strike home.
From the looks of it, both are likely tenured and this is the exact item that tenure protects. So it is within their "power" and OMG, some sleeping students will not get the syllabus review that they would have ignored anyway.
Next, how many folks who are requesting their dismissal are qualified to replace these individuals? If you are going to terminate someone, you need to have their replacement ready or you end up like South Carolina football....

Go through the PhD process and then we will talk.
I have my own issues with the academic process but tenure itself is not one of them. Why? Return on investment.
A Professor, generally outside a few edge cases etc, is not going to be huge money-maker BUT it require a LOT of investment to even get to that point even in cases of assistantship/scholarship. And that investment IS required. I don't want "undergrad" level folks on the research side. There is a necessary "weeding out" needed for research professionals. And yeah, young-twenty-somethings are not there and most going through are cut for it.
At the end of the day, I turn down the academic path. I like research, not academia. That is my choice. However, at the end of the road, I "spent" a lot of my own resources to get to be called "Dr" for the rest of my life. From a cost/benefit analysis, if I kept down the academic path I would need the Tenure security to offset the risk involved as a graduate/PhD student. I sacrificed 10+ years of earning potential to get there. I am not going to recoup that cost, especially in academia without guaranteed income. Still, it would have taken me 6 more years to get tenure. So those that are tenure took a major income potential loss while also taking a big investment risk. Only 2 of my 7/8 PhD peers made it out in my cohort. Only one is in academia now.
That is the tradeoff. You put all of your economic risk into the first 16+ years of your career.

We're WAY more than 18 months into the flu and common cold and there's no treatment for those, either. Only ways to mitigate the symptoms. We haven't figured out how to kill a virus once it's in the human body. We can equip the human body to fight it, with vaccines which encourage antibodies, but once infected you need to have those antibodies or you're going to get sick.

The air traffic controllers striking against the federal government is a different animal.
PATCO - the air traffic controller union and folks - were basically thumbing its nose at everyone and created a major safety issue. They willingly and completely violated federal law. They were in complete violation of following court orders to return to work.
Even then, Reagan did not fire them for simply walking out so to speak, he fired them after the failed to return to work after a 48 hour period. After the courts already made mandates after their own legal options had failed.
That being said, it took nearly 10 years to replace those ATC folks

Clemson administration is not taking safety as the number one job. Over. 700 universities across the nation are requiring masks and/or vaccination. This includes some of the best in the World. Excellent smaller Universities such as Northwestern, Furman and then large public Universities such as Ohio State, University of California. If we want to be in the top 25 we should act like it. Henry McMaster besides being a chicken graduate could care less about public safety. Our administration needs the balls to tell him where to go. We need to act like a real educational institution and less as a football factory.

There are plenty of essential workers who have and are still working through this pandemic. They are exposed to more people per day than professors and in closer contact . Professors can maintain their distance and wear masks if they like. Believe it or not, many students have the Covid antibodies and some even wear masks.

The University of Florida originally had a mask mandate until they were sued by a student who won in court. People resisting mandates for a mask or an experimental vaccine are winning in the courts and they are using the same tactic as abortion advocates. They were losing these court cases when they approached it as a first amendment right. But now they are winning because they are using the left tactic of personal medical decision between me and my doctor. The courts have no choice but to rule in favor of the plaintiffs because of decades of precedent in the abortion fight. This is beautiful because it is pulling a Saul Alinsky move on the left.
FYI he was a hero to both Obama and Hillary Clinton. He was also a far left scumbag! He wrote the playbook for the far left.

While the rags we call mask are relatively safe they are a potential problem for some people. Imo, the rags and surgical mask are worthless to the wearer but do offer some minor protection to others who come in contact with the wearer.
I have no opinion on what Clemson should do. Honestly, I have no dog in that fight. I am vaccinated and wear a mask in public. Since I've never presented any of the symptoms of covid I understand my wearing a mask serves only the egotistical and superstitious.

Against the vaccine or mandatory testing guidelines in place at Clemson.
NC State is among the many colleges not requiring a vaccine and I don’t think mandatory testing as well.
The Reality is the PCR test is a terrible test for diagnosing Covid and PCR experts have said that. We should not be testing people randomly. We should only be testing people that have verified and confirmed symptoms of Covid.
