Offensive playcalling trend

Any juan noticed that if Mafah hits a big gainer, the next play Riley always gives it to Mafah again (which usually gets stuffed) ...

Am I the only one that notices this ?

Noticed the same thing.

Looks like other teams have too!

I get the idea. Would think this would be more effective later in the game.

Mafah certainly wears a defense down, but I wonder if we are wearing him down a bit too much in the process. Maybe they are establishing a tendency to set up some play action wrinkles.

I thought the same thing. I also saw Mafah running more tentatively than usual. He didn’t seek contact and opted to skirt out of bounds or hit the hole softer than usual. I believe he would have eclipsed 175 yards if he ran with his usual bruising style. However, that must be taking its toll on his body. Perhaps it’s smart to ease up and not kill himself every play.

Rule of thumb is, run it till they stop it.

More like run it regardless of what’s happening. Been seeing 8 man boxes and runs to the A gaps.

Rule of thumb should be if a hoss like Mafah just run for 40 yards, for goodness sake let the kid take a breather.

We also tend to throw deep (mostly for an incompletion) after a turnover.

Agree. If he goes for 20, give him breather next play, either as blocker or sub
