We seem to be struggling here. Does anyone know if we have a realistic shot at any of the remaining names and if so, who? Any idea on what the issues are in landing OL talent?

I have been following Clemson Football for over 35 years. OL recruiting has been the Achilles heel of this program since Danny left. I think Dabo is doing a great job but this weakness is showing up again. I really am worried about it too.

Let’s keep in mind that the offense you run is predicated on the O line. I don’t think all the linemen we recruit fit the “star bill”because we need guys that can get outside the box and pave. I’m not worried but I do put value in numbers. As in Bama and Ohio state recruits 10 5 Star linemen and year in and year out they have one of the best Olines.if we stay top 20 in this area, we are good. We have great coaching.

Yes .i realize there are not 10 5 Star offensive linemen. My point is we are chasing the same fruit.

It does not bother me that we struggle getting commitments from top rated OL as it is such a difficult position to evaluate. Having said that the key is to oversign lesser rated players knowing many will not be able to contribute. Signing low numbers of low rated players will hurt us in the long run without a doubt.

Every poster seems to be worried about the near misses on OL recruiting thus far. This season will tell us quite a bit about the area of concern as regards to the development of lesser known players. Caldwell is an excellent teacher, but he is indeed up against younger competition from a recruiting standpoint. Dabo knows Clemson has to have a certain number of solid OL recruits each year so until we reach November I'll hold my concerns accordingly.
We always seem to come up with enough candidates, but this year's recruits will lay the groundwork for what is to come so our efforts are indeed critical if we want to remain among the elite programs. I would not be surprised to see Coach Caldwell retire sooner than later, perhaps after this season? Only he and Dabo know what lies ahead on that score.
