The Giant's figured out how to use Andy Headon and Terry Kinard to play Linebacker and Safety when they won a championship back in 1986.
I'm wishing him the best of luck up there with Big Dex!

That's not how it works in the NFL. You can't just out "athlete" people. Simmons hasn't been good anywhere the Cards tried to play him. He was bad in coverage and bad against the run. He got traded for nothing because he wasn't going to make the team. Maybe a change in scenery can help him figure it out, but you can't keep him on the field in the NFL because he just isn't good at playing NFL level football.

Wow. Basically gave him away. Hopefully he will be in a situation where they know how to utilize him as he isn't a cookie cutter type defender.

Exactly what I was thinking, and I was wondering why they were willing to give him away. His stats says that he earned his way playing the game, so why give up a guy like Isaiah Simmons for almost free???

Former Butkus Award LB averaging more than 100 tackles a year = 7th round pick.
I'm curious what upgrade they are going to get with said pick that produces like he can. Is that pick really better than letting him play out his rookie contract, or even resigning top talent.

I mean no offense, but the preponderance of current events leads many to believe that "The Big Apple" ain't what she used to be. I have lived in numerous big cities: Louisville, Miami, outside Washington DC, Baton Rouge, Nashville, Honolulu, and now make the upstate my home. I once loved Chicago and was offered a job there. But, in the end, I declined. I have visited New York several times. I have seen Broadway plays. I once had dinner at the old Yankee Club, watched Ron Guidry shut out the White Sox, won the attendance pool, and bought my dad a Yankee jacket. But, I never felt connected to the city as being a part of this country. Much as I did living in Hawaii.
That all changed on 9/11. The courage and bravery exhibited that day by the "First Responders" and indeed the entire city, changed my mind about all that. I even bought an FDNY cap. But that is all gone now. When I see what all goes on there: crime, lack of education for young people, the disdain for the values that I grew up with and still maintain, and the apparent lack of respect for human dignity, I certainly understand why so many people are leaving. These are a few of the reasons that I do not feel living in NYC would be a "Life Upgrade". I hope you accept my brief synopsis, but you asked. ">

crime
It's one of the safer cities in the US. Much safer than most of South Carolina, going by crime statistics. On average, you're about 3 times as likely to be murdered in SC as you are in NYC.

Got plenty of New Yorkers that have moved down in my neck of the woods and they may argue with you. Maybe crime stats get better out of NYC. Other things I hear from them is expensive and cold.

Crime in NYC is definitely worse than it was a few years ago, but that's true in most places. I imagine most people leaving New York for the South can afford to live in the nicer parts of SC. I don't think they're moving to Orangeburg or Florence.
New York is more expensive, but people there also make more money. That doesn't do them any good when they're ready to retire, though, so they move to a place where the cost of living is lower.

I guess this means they didn't want to pay him next year so decided to get something for him.
Still feels like a weird decision given he has produced and didn't get much for him.
Isn't a productive year at 1 million better than a 7th round draft pick?

The Cards and their fans are the problem. He produced over 100 tackles, and he was used in schemes that did not fit his full capability. Too bad Isiah could not play QB because IMO Murray was the worst pick in history of NFL. Far too small and just not a good NFL fit, good college, but not NFL.
Their disappointment should be drafting a tiny QB and expecting anything out of him other than what they have received. Just not a good fit in the NFL, so all that they are mad about is a QB who simply isn't what they hoped for.

Why in the world would Phoenix trade him? Were they unwilling to go through his contract renegotiation? The Giants have to be happy.

forum posts about him a few months ago and they generally didn't seem pleased with his play. Roughly half of them wanted to get rid of him while the other half wanted to pick up his option and give him 1 more shot.
It sounded like they were struggling to find a position for him and he had a propensity to blow assignments. Kind of a jack of all trades and master of none which isn't great in the NFL.
Maybe the Giants can get more out of him, but this doesn't seem too surprising.

It's amazing I can't use the softest of profane words to describe something ridiculous or mind blowing but TNet will post videos with the most vulgar, explicit, racially charged language known to the human race. I mean come on, can't even use the shortened term for Gamecock which is #### btw.

Underutilized by far but still had impressive numbers. NY got an absolute steal...7th rd? I would think they would atleast get a 3rd minimum. Obviously turmoil over a new contract for Arizona to give him away for nothing with only 1mil against the cap to keep him. Go Tigers!!!!

Well, this is good for him considering how he can be utilized in New York.
Giving up a 7th round pick for such talent is as easy as it gets. He is a 1st round pick that will be getting paid next year, Arizona wanted out of that as much as Isiah wanted out of Arizona.
Behind that big Dline will be great for him. Hope he can have the year he is capable of putting together, best wishes to him and his family.
Go Tiger!!

The Cards have their problems, but much of this is on Isaiah
Aug 24, 2023, 5:44 PM
|
|
I don't pretend to be a Cardinals fan, but I've watched some of his games the last 3 years and Isaiah makes a lot of mental mistakes on the field in pass coverage and run gaps. Some of them killed the Cardinals at inopportune times.
His tape at Clemson was unreal and the Cards figured he would be very versatile in the NFL. They probably put too much on his plate at the start and things went downhill from there.
He's not the sharpest guy on the field. Hopefully the Giants can understand his limitations, reduce some of his decision-making and turn him loose to use his athleticism, which remains elite.
