I hope I would do the only thing I have time for.

The lone advantage of age is realizing that no amount of bible reading, no amount of sermons, no amount of good intentions, no amount of human accountability can change the temptations and selfish motivations I inherited from the world. I've tried it all, yet keep making the same mistakes, falling to the same sins. The response is to do more of those 'good' things, to blame myself for not doing them enough, but at some point I faced, "It doesn't work."

My greatest admiration is for people younger than I who realize this without needing that much experience. That is true maturity and wisdom.

What I discovered is that when the moments of temptation come, only one thing changes normal emotions, thoughts and behavior: "Jesus, take my hand and walk with me for the next few minutes." If a doc says, "You have one day left", or one second, I hope I would do only that.
