Let face it, Notre Dame would NEVER devalue their brand by joining the ACC

Notre Dame has ZERO incentive to join any conference in football.***

Their AD's comments about playing Clemson as rival every year, but still keeping their Independence from the ACC show how arrogant and selfish they are to get want they want. To me, ACC should drop them fully...

Bingo. They are looking out for themselves. They are worried with talk of the SEC and BIG expanding the number of conference games and the two conferences exclusively scheduling each other they will not be able to put together a decent schedule.

Clearly, ND is concerned that the possibility for further expansion of SEC and B1G (if / when they expand again, it will be with top tier teams) will leave ND with too few high quality opponents from which to build a credible FB schedule.

ND’s brand would suffer significantly if their top opponents end up being Stanford, Cal, one or two service academies, a few mid-majors, and the dregs of the last ‘major’ conferences e.g., Big 12 and other also-ran ACC teams.

Lousy TV ratings for ND vs boring opponents. The value of their TV contract deteriorates. ND enters the vortex.

Even if Clemson were to agree to the annual game vs ND, gradually ND will deteriorate into a medium SoS opponent for us, which doesn’t do anything to enhance our current conundrum with weak ACC opponents.

Clemson - just say NO to ND unless they join the ACC as a full member. If they do this, then we can talk.

i'd be fine with playing them every year. Its a great resume builder and they

Be stupid to drop them, such a great institution

that adds excellence in most of their athletic programs.

It helps the ACC overall so why fight it?

The Notre Dame AD has specifically said...

the school would not consider trading its independence for a chance at a CFP first round bye.

I think there is a strong likelihood that there will be some reseeding going forward that will eliminate the first round bye for some conference champions.

So the conferences should not schedule games with ND.

Why does this topic even come up on here anymore? People actually still think there is even the slightest of chances?

It comes up here on a Clemson message board that is not a Notre Dame message board because Notre Dame is irrelevant. Irrelevant Irrelevant Irrelevant.

So irrelevant the topic will be raised tomorrow and 100 more times this year. Because the way to tell if someone doesn’t care about something is to count how many times they tell you they don’t care about it.

Has nothing to do with the ACC, Notre Dame is Notre Dame and do not need a conference for football.

So ND devalued their brand in every sport but football?

Jan 22, 2025, 9:22 AM

Or is football the only sport they have a strong brand in? A few years ago they won a natty in women's basketball. Men's basketball won an ACC Championship in 2015. And Clemson beat Notre Dame for the national championship in soccer 13 months ago.

I've wondered hypothetically if Notre Dame joined a different conference in football, would the rest of the sports join that conference too. That would be a slap in the face to the ACC, like thanks for letting us use you temporarily.

Actually the ACC denied their request to join because one of their requirements was to have the conference name subtitled with, “Featuring Notre Dame”. And in italics on top of that. They just asked too much.

The ACC has more leverage than is being used with ND. Tell them to be completely in or completely out of the ACC. They need the conference affiliation for every other sport. Especially if the SEC and BIG give them the cold shoulder.

I feel like the ACC basically begged ND to affiliate to the present degree and therefore any further negotiations is from a weak position.

The ACC is DOA with questionable leadership.

That is all!

The ACC should approach ESPN and ask how much more they would pay if Clemson and Notre Dame were on each other's schedule every year.

Then pay Clemson that money and hope it is enough to keep Clemson from leaving the ACC.

Otherwise, the ACC will end up like the Pac 10 sooner or later.
