B1G size and B1G speed. Like all the pundits said, Ohio State vs Oregon was the de facto National Championship game already. The reality is there were 3 B1G teams in the final 4. It's a B1G world and no one is even close. Maybe Texas from the Big XII can play spoiler?

So, Notre Dame won because they are built like a Big10 team. And Penn State, a Big10 team, lost.

But Ohio State, a Big10 team, is already the national champion because they will beat Notre Dame, who is built like a Big10 team.

Got it.

Why has the Big10 only won 1 of the past 9 CFP Championships?

a good therapist though. It may help.

When your conference is the best in all of college football, by far, yes you will have conference teams beating fellow conference teams. But that just makes them battle tested as iron sharpens iron. It's a gauntlet. As Fox /B1G Network says, "It Just Has Greater Meaning."

Because they don’t have SEC speed, is that right?

ND won because they figure things out as they progress through the game...ND figures out how to win...PSU has a habit of figuring out how to lose! And the officials even loaded the box against ND with that goofy PI, no interception call...one of the worst I have seen in a while! There was so little contact that the PSU receiver fell down backwards thinking he was catching the ball!

you're talking about the one where the defender ran into the receiver without bothering to look back for the ball? That's called faceguarding, and it's pass interference all day long.

I hate to say this....

Both PSU and ND, overall, are bigger and faster than us. They've play the modern talent acquisition game. Frankly, after hearing from ND fans my whole life how they are so pristine and do things the right way, its funny how many of their stars are not home grown. Hey, its legal now, but they too raid other teams. I don't want to hear abt them being the shining example anymore.

Also, what's CLEARLY apparent is both those teams are juicing. Maybe a bit of that is they have better talented depth, but the elite teams are doing something we aren't in the S&C field. And this is no bash against Batson...done a great job. Maybe time for some new direction.... The size/speed combination differential isn't just naturally happening..... Ever since the O incident, you can see a slight decline....

Homegrown? Both of those schools are the original Bluebloods! They recruit nationally at a high level, and very well. Funny when our Tigers were bigger faster stronger, no one labeled us as cheaters. We had elite talent across the board , something we’ve missed on the last 4 years.Take into consideration on the defensive side of the ball, the players who decommited the last couple of years, we’d still be legit. But those are whatiffs.

You take Leonard and the FG kicker off that team, and they are quite different. Yes, they recruit very well...better than us lately. As I've mentioned, they are playing the talent acquisition game better than us b/c both (ND and PSU) made the decision years ago to go all in on talent acquisition where we felt we didn't have to. BUT, they still have unavoidable GAPS (all teams do) and still need to raid the portal. My argument has been that if teams like ND, PSU, BAMA, OSU can't entirely rely on homegrown (HS kids) talent anymore, and must use the portal for unavoidable gaps, what makes ANYONE think Clemson can get away with not using the portal or not being elite at HS recruiting? As recent actions have shown, we can't.

You don't think when the Ostarine (sp?) incident happened we weren't labeled as cheaters??? We were despite everyone else doing it. Difference is we got caught.

I never said ND or PSU are cheating, rather, they are playing the game and using all resources available. Agree with you, we don't have elite talent across the board as we once did. ALL self-inflicted. Yes, the misses hurt, but some of the fallbacks were not the caliber we used to have; partly b/c we offer a bit too little and don't leave ourselves any room for error when we don't hit on our top targets. Slight tweaks is all that is needed. Some have occured and thankfully it appears others are finally happening. I've been saying for years on here that CDS know he needs to change and will....sometimes though, we all need a nudge to get going.

Penn State didn't complete ANY passes to a WR...

2

Jan 10, 2025, 1:27 PM

All completions were to a TE or RB.

Notre Dame won because Penn State is a one dimensional offense that can't

1

Jan 10, 2025, 1:21 PM

throw and catch well. Their leading receiver by far is their tight end which makes it easier to shut down their passing game. They completed 0 passes to a wide receiver last night. Their QB couldn't complete passes down field or under pressure. Notre Dame could and did.

Both teams ran the ball 42 times and Penn State basically doubled ND up in the running game.

The difference was the passing game.

Allar - 15 of 23 for 135 yds 0 TDs and 1 pick(should have been 3)
ND - 21 of 30 for 267 yds 1 TD and 2 picks.

Talk about one dimension...did you look at the ND stats...they are not fast...Leonard runs a long time in the same spot!

I’ll give you this. Both of those teams would have ran through our DLine like a hot knife through warm butter, No resistance. Both of those teams would have exploited our LBs with their tight ends. BUT, both have weaknesses in the secondary and that will be exploited by OWhinOState

Didn’t we just beat the heck out of ND last year?
We played very bad defense this year for whatever reason.
Our offense would have scored at ease against both th those teams last night.

Beck proved two things this season.....(1) he is fully capable of rallying his team and making great plays and (2) he is a turnover machine. Pretty good chance he played worse than Stockton in the game....UGA was very inconsistent this year and could have easily had 5 losses..give them credit for winning but they toed the line all year.

They won because Penn St.'s QB threw a stupid pass for an interception late in the 4th quarter.

For the record this year....they beat (2) SEC teams..both top 10 in recruiting nearly every year...(5) ACC teams....(3) Traditional BI0 and then (1) New B10 in USC thats built with west coast speed.

I think it just means they are a good team and find ways to win no matter the opponent or style. They may not beat Texas or OSU but they will give them a game.
