My top 20 based on resume. Not predictions or history.

5

Oct 27, 2024, 11:04 PM

1. Oregon (Undefeated, 3 top 25 wins) Big 10
2. BYU (Undefeated, 2 top-25 wins) Big 12
3. Penn St. (Undefeated, 1 top 25 win) Big 10
4. UGA (1 loss to top 15, 2 top 20 wins) SEC
5. Miami (undefeated, 0 top 25 wins) ACC
6. Texas A&M (1 loss, 2 top 25 wins) SEC
7. Tennessee (1 mediocre loss, 1 top 20 win) SEC
8. Notre Dame (1 awful loss, 1 top 10 win) Ind
9. Indiana (undefeated, no top-25 wins) Big 10
10. Ohio St. (1 elite close loss, no top-25 wins) Big 10
11. Iowa State (undefeated, weak schedule) Big 12
12. Pitt (undefeated, weak schedule) ACC
13. Boise St (1 close elite loss, 1 top-25 win) MW
14. Texas (1 loss, a couple kinda decent wins) SEC
15. Kansas St (1 loss elite blowout, 1 top-25 win) Big 12
16. SMU (1 elite close loss, no top 30 wins) ACC
17. Clemson (1 elite blowout loss, no top 50 wins) ACC
18. Alabama (2 losses, 2 top 25 wins) SEC
19. Army (undefeated, very weak schedule) CUSA
20. Washington St (1 top-20 loss, no good wins) 2Pac

Had we beat UGA I would have us at 2. We simply have ZERO decent wins and a blowout loss.

Nope, our loss was to an sec team, so it's like two wins in any other conference.

Boise St should be 7 based on the logic you used elsewhere.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, most of those teams are undefeated. That carries weight.

Takes a big difference in schedule to overcome that. Ohio State is ahead because they lost by a hair vs the best team in the country, plus their wins are mostly better.

Elite wins outweigh quality losses. So Notre Dame's wins are better than Boise. Tennessee has a much better overall schedule resume than Boise.

ALl present rankings are relative to preseason rankings.

As the season develops the final SOS' will become valuable. At this point in the season they are near meaningless, imo. It's fun to discuss them but we need to keep in mind that some SOS' will get better and some worse. h

There is no accurate way to evaluate teams by stats. The only way is to watch more football games than is practical. I'm not that big of a football fan anymore. I just can't sacrifice productivity to do that.

I offer no contest to your rankings. Imo, they are as good as any at this point.

You know what this highlights? These huge conferences water down the

competition.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Without divisions these huge conferences are not sustainable.

Oct 28, 2024, 7:23 AM

Having an undefeated conference team never get a chance to win the conference is the dumbest scenario college football has ever produced. Dumber than pre-BCS, dumber than BCS. Dumber than playoffs.

+1000

Without divisions, the only way to determine a conference championship is set it up like March madness. Which we know is impossible in football. So it's either divisions or scrap conference championship games and just have a 32 team playoff.

They either need 9 conference games, a semi-final, or divisions.

The SEC should really be two different conferences.

East
UGA
Florida
SC
Bama
Auburn
Kentucky
Vandy
Tennessee

West
Texas
Oklahoma
Mizzou
TAMU
Ole Miss
MSU
LSU

Very fair poll. Even though I’m glad we’re 8 in the coaches poll, I think that’s a bit overranked. However if we do beat Louisville and Pitt, I think we deserve to be near the top five.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At this point is the season I would prefer disrespect than over-respect.

During the best season in our history everyone thought Bama was the greatest team of all time until we killed them.

So you put Miami at 5 but Pitt at 12 when both effectively have played similar “weak schedules”. Both have similar last second wins except you could argue Miami got gifted a win (or 2). Not sure how you can really claim one resume is that much better than the other.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgtnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good question, here is what I saw...

Oct 28, 2024, 3:09 PM

First of all, if they played on a neutral site, I would not necessarily favor Miami. You are right that there is no big difference between their schedules. The only minor things I say about Miami over Pitt is that I do believe they have been more dominant slightly more often and they have slightly better wins.

Pitt's best win is blowing out Syracuse. That's not bad. Better win than Clemson has IMO.

But Miami blew out Florida at Florida. Florida is not great, but better than Syracuse at least.

They both beat Cal close. Miami did seem to benefit from close calls, but I am just factoring in scoreboard. I give the nod to Miami between the two, and the whole bunch between (in my ranking) them are barely separated in my mind. 5-15 is all very close at this point. Separation is coming soon I think.
