I asked this in another thread, and no one can do it.
So figured I would ask it here, and see if anyone can help.
1. Name one player Clemson should be going after right now to bring in as a transfer for the 2024 season.
2. Which current player would he replace?
3. What would this “portal player” demand in order to come to Clemson? (money, etc.)
If you were a smart coach, you would at least need to know these basics.

I don't think Dabo would hire a new Portal Recruiter and ask him on day one to do what you requested. If so and the new hire could do it, he should become the new HC. It appears that Pearman can't do it after being on the job for however long he has been there. And you want a tnetter to instantly do it? Seriously?

No one is hiding. You wanted a tnetter to be Pearman for a day, and do in a day what he has not done in however long he is supposed to be doing it, which is longer than a day. And then get your panties in a wad when no one wants to play your silly game.
When Dabo or you want to hire me or any other tnetter and pay me/some other tnetter what Pearman is getting paid, I and many other tnetters will take the job and produce better results than Pearman.

Unless you pay them. Then they can do better. Evidently there is magic in money. If you pay coaches high salaries they should never lose another game or miss on a recruit and always have the best transfer players. Like flipping a switch when they get that contract.

Well it would probably be beneficial to go after the good portal guys that were in the portal before the teams snatched them up this year. If you want to answer your question please go look up the teams that we hear about every week that have went into the portal and made there team better by doing so and you can probably find some players that would help Clemson as much as they have helped those teams if Clemson would have went after them.

Unless several transfer out, you can't really bring in OL. There are already 15 on scholarship and O'Connell is signed out of high school.
Same story at WR. There will be 11 guys on scholarship. Dabo will not let anyone get near his WRs. He only lets his minions coach them so he can keep a close grip. (Scott and Grisham)
I expect a few RBs to transfer out this year as we'll have 7 on scholarship when Eziomume comes in. But you don't portal there with Ship and Mafah as seniors.
DE makes sense to go get someone. I'm not sure that Patterson, Denhoff or Lawson will ever be game-changers.
LB makes even more sense to go get someone. If 54 and 0 get drafted, you're left with Woodaz, 3 sophomores with limited experience and Sammy Brown.
Safety and Corner are probably fine.
I can't answer number 1 nor 3.

If I am Dan Pearman I am doing what's best for Clemson. I am resigning as TE's coach and going to 100% special teams coach. Te's can be coached by the receivers coach.
Since the portal has not opened for this years players I am saving that 1 or 2 schollys till it does open.

Trevor ETN (Travis made a joke about him playing for Colorado next year, seems he is unhappy at Florida)
Dominque Thomas (Either Mafa or Shipley is leaving this year and we will need another RB, preferably with speed to actually play)
IDK but I have now until November when he actually announces to figure that out and make sure I can give him it (Or any other good runningback who enters). He is currently at about 60 snaps, which is only 8 ahead of Mafah. We could manage to get him a larger share than that as he would bring speed whereas Shipley or Mafah will bring power. If its money I think we can find someone who would pay for advertising from ETN's brother, Chipolte just did. And if its just a change of scenery and not be stuck on borderline bowl team, Clemson can offer it as well as a chance for an NFL future.

Building and rebuilding I-85 aren't best in class at their jobs. However, I'm not a structural engineer or construction PM so I can't tell you what they should be doing instead. Our portal execution is a liability that's also clear. It's not all Pearman's fault there is no institional focus or dedication to improving the roster through this new talent acquisition avenue. Danny could work 247 he'll never be successful if the program doesn't want to use the portal

So based on your assessment, an incompetent construction company has been allowed to toil on I-85 for 60 years, with no consequences. Not the red herring.
No I'm not qualified to tell our coaches who to target in the portal or how to work the NIL inducements; which is why i never have. I am blessed to have the sense of hearing, and have not heard a single person who is qualified say we're better off from a personnel perspective by avoiding the portal. I guess you'll say that all of these former coaches, players, and administrators who are football analysts who say we should target SOMEONE are all unqualified to evaluate our roster and it's deficiencies. If Dabo is the only person on the planet who can have a valid opinion about the roster then we better hope like hale he's perfect and never makes a high school recruiting mistake. Since there's only been one person who's ever walked the earth that was perfect; I'm thinking that hope ain't a good strategy.

The comparison was to your assertion that it takes an expert to know when something is wrong and needs fixing. If that was not your assertion, then your reply re. I-85 example was misunderstood by me. Then if so, my bad.
My assertion is that you don't have to be an expert in the subject at hand to know when it is not working or may need repair or could be improved. How you fix it, may take an expert. Why it quit working may take an expert to diagnose. If my tv quits working, I don't need an expert to tell me it is not working. I may need an expert to tell me why it quit working or to repair it. If a surgeon botched my operation, I don't need an expert to tell me it was botched. I may need an expert to tell me how it was botched or how it can be fixed.

We have to wait and see who all enters the portal at the end of the season. There are going to be starters at others schools leaving. They just haven't announced yet.
Some coaches will get fired and many of their players will transfer out.
Some coaches will leave for other jobs and many of their players will transfer out.

well before they officially place themselves in the portal. ITs due to the use of "3rd Party" meddlers. So in order to be efficient you would need to have said "3rd party" send out feelers to players currently on rosters. The guys currently in the portal usually are guys that are not desirable due to whatever circumstance.
So Pearman would need to employ someone to start making phone calls and sending direct messages to players. This is why, I believe, Dabo hasn't done much with the transfer game.. He knows how it works and views it as unethical and he has stated he wants to do things the right way. And the guys in the portal currently probably wouldn't help or play much anyway.

The question isn't really relevant for doing anything imminently because the portal doesn't open again until early December. At a high level we should:
1. Evaluate the number of scholarship players we expect to return next season, including incoming Freshmen.
2. Look at the bottom 10% on scholarship and determine if they are going to provide any usable depth for the foreseeable future. If not, consider pulling those scholarships.
3. Evaluate the needs and depth of each position group to assess gaps.
4. Subtract from 85 to determine how many slots you could have open.
5. Evaluate from the portal or from your HS board that you are recruiting for Feb. 7 final signing day.

A couple of rebuttals…
First- I’m guessing if I brought this same question up in December, a lot of the answers would be something like “well we waited too long, and the best players are already taken…shoulda been calling guys in October…”
As for your item #2:
Without researching the numbers…I’d be willing to bet if we took away 10% of scholarships, that would likely include some guys who were recruited out of high school to be scholarship players.
So are you suggesting if there’s a guy we awarded a scholarship out of HS, he’s worked hard and done everything right…but he just hasn’t panned out…
Then we should pull his scholarship?
Are you in support of that?

If you had donors willing to pick up the tab to get transfers and pay NIL millions Why not as part of the package pick up the tab for the player being replaced if he wants to remain a Clemson student. Not impossible. Dabo is the coach. If he does not want to take a scholly away from a player due to performance, and wants him to remain on the team, fine.

Do you believe there are never any players in the portal that could help the team? Do you just trust what the staff is doing? I'm genuinely curious because I don't even know what I'm arguing against.
I'm not a radical that wants us to run off players and build a roster through the transfer portal, but surely when 129 teams are doing one thing and 1 team is doing another, you have to be skeptical that the 1 team is doing things optimally. In order for that to be true, every else has to be wrong. Given our results on the field have also slipped a bit in the last few years, its difficult to accept the logic that Dabo is correct here and everyone else in CFB are doing things wrong.
So are you open to the possibility of taking a few transfers here and there to bolster certain positions - something even the elite recruiting programs are doing - or are you completely anti-portal?

well first I would have to get me a third party money man that has no clue as to who I am, then have said man go to Ohio St, USC and maybe Oregon and find out how will it take to get me some mercenaries at WR, OL. DB and a few LB's!
With the exception of LB's where we could use some quality depth, other than the OL and WR's who would you replace that is currently starting? A kicker would be great, but you have the best in the country coming next season!

Mid morning round at the Walker Course, then cool off at the '55 Exchange with a double cone. Peruse Bowman Field for a pickup game, anything to get the blood pumping. Head over to Esso and shoot the bull with the old timers there over an extended lunch. Go home and bother the wife. Then head out to go fish Lake Hartwell. Probably consider going home to pick the wife back up depending on how the earlier bothering panned out. Catching the sunset from the water either way.
I guess at some point I would check my email from the phone. No need to check the PROTAL though.

I'm not a portal totalist but here is what I would be doing.
Tigers have 14 Sr/Grads.
I believe another 8 or so leave for the draft or transfer.
The incoming class sits at 17. That leaves 6 open scholarships, 14+8=22 - 17=5+1=6
The 1 is Dudley's vacated scholarship.
Based on where I think that attrition is, I make it known Clemson is looking for a speed RB, Outside WR, IOL, Edge & LB
We'll figure out the numbers based on interest.
I'd rather take more OL and WR. To bolster the roster bc we need difference makers on offense.
But that is dependent upon Dabo buying in to those positions and numbers. There should be an on-going conversation with the position coaches that works a lot like NFL training camp but in reverse. The conversation is about who is moving on and not developing rather than who we are making a case to keep.
Adding a pinch of Dabo for a second, these conversations are NOT about who is losing a scholarship. I don't run that type of program. What I do is continue to inform players of their likely PT and role going forward and let them make their own decisions.
Back to being a fan, I believe this largely already happens and is why there have been the transfers out that we have seen and what kind of role MOST of those players have at their next stop.
But that would be my plan and my job/role. That avoids any need for an illegal bagman. It may not compete with the programs that are using bagmen but I'm out on that. However, I do make sure the agents have contact info for our NIL collectives. I might also mention the sweet Beats I got from Cade and the Beaux Time commercial I really like. I'm not a Chipotle fan. Do they still serve everything in those recycled paper boats?
