Mitch Trubisky

Mar 2, 2017, 1:42 PM

For all of the draft gurus that were saying Trubisky was more prototypical qb than Watson, Watson is taller, has bigger hands than him and weighs the same as him. Watson is alos a proven winner, but we already knew that.

I am curious. If Trubisky is better than Watson then is the reason for less results a product of a lack of players? I'd say no since Hood will be taken before Gallman and there will be several UNC WRs taken in this draft. Was Trubisky too timid and not enough of a risk taker? Or maybe couldn't be at his best when it mattered most? I'm going with this. Maybe he threw less interceptions because he was too careful. Perhaps he missed lots of would be big plays because he was timid. Deshaun is careless because he knows how to win and has ironclad confidence. Plain and simple- Deshaun is a better athlete than Mitch. Deshaun has a better resume than Mitch. Deshaun has more experience than Mitch. Mitch is maybe a better passer at this stage. Who do you want leading your franchise?

He only started 1 year so he's a bit of a wildcard.

His numbers were good though. Similar completion % to DW4 and a higher YPA. 30 TDs with 6 pics. Solid stat line. I've heard "scouts" say he's more accurate than Watson, but we will see.

He also got crushed and was largely or completely ineffective against VT, Miami, UGA, and, strangely, Duke, especially in crunch time.

When even Duke's defense is making you look pedestrian at the Moment of Truth, I dunno how anybody can regard you as a potential NFL guy, much less a first-rounder.

It is not like he had no offensive talent around him, either. He was throwing to Bug Howard, Austin Proehl (Ricky Proehl's kid), and Ryan Switzer - maybe the most underrated guy in FBS football - and handing off to a former 5-star in Elijah Hood.

I know he throws a Purty Purty ball and all, but I was just not real impressed with Mitch Trubisky the actual football player. He did lead UNC to a shocker over FSU in Tally but that was the one time the whole actually seemed to equal the sum of its parts with him. The vast remainder of the time - meh. Or worse.
