Just not from someone that has a crush with the basketball coach to the extent that if Brownell dropped his pants you'd fall to your knees. It's just really unusual. Speaking of touchy...

...didn't turn out the way they wanted. RB and QB room. So they hit the transfer portal button and move on. Certainly not indicative of something rotten. Just guys wanting to play NOW and the ease of the transfer portal makes it so enticing.

in the RB room & they ain’t rotten…. But the reason those guys left. Surprised Lyn-J didn’t leave sooner- talked to his grandmother 2 years ago on the way to the stadium & she said then he wasn’t happy with the amount of carries he was getting- made me think he was going to transfer without playing last year

and not seen that Shipley was the back that got the offense moving, is Stevie Wonder.I was very disappointed when after Shiley came in and we scored in just a few plays that they went to Lyn J the next series. Nothing against Lyn J. But the offense sparked when Shipley came in. Trot him right back out there. I mean, the offense has not been prolific. It reminded me of the Merriweather fiasco.

End of the 2006 USuCk game, we are down by three.
Sep 20, 2021, 10:50 PM
|
|
Been hard to get anything going all day. Spiller had a big first half but they managed to bottle him up later in the game. James Davis had a terrible day, Proctor as usual was finding nobody down field.
After Succop hits a FG to give them the lead with about eight minutes left, we start driving. Reggie Merriweather rips off three runs for 21 yards, gets us in FG range....and gets pulled for the ineffective James Davis. We have to settle for a FG attempt, which is missed, and our four game win streak over the Yardbirds is over.

Reggie was lighting it up on a last-minute drive, eating chunks of yards, then we put in Davis, a freshman, and he gets stoned 3x on the goal line if memory serves correctly. we lost the game. Napier got fired that year I believe, was so long ago.

we haven't had in a while. He's rough around the edges but I think he's probably more talented than Lyn-J. Pace is a fine blocking back, but Lyn-J was our most complete RB at this moment in time. Sucks to lose him.

Feaster - Didn't earn the starting job, left after season to play his final season elsewhere.
Bowman - Just an opinion, but I think once his grandpa in Atlanta passed ,he wanted to go home
Melussi - Good kid wanted to start. How much did Lyn J still being around influence his decision ?
Dixon - Leaving before the 4th game that he could play and try to help his team, seems to have not jelled with his RB coach, didn't earn the starting job. A NATIONAL Championship winning HC, that rarely says anything publicly about player trouble, said he needed to grow up. Eff him and everyone making excuses for him!

yup, Etienne > Feaster, Bowman - who knows, we'll see who has a better career between him and Shipley. Mellusi could have fought for the starting job, you have to wonder if he decided his NFL prospects were better behind Wisconsin's hogs than ours (could be very smart decision). I liked Lyn J, but thought he struggled last year. Guessing he's been a pill ever since Etienne graduated

I understand Bowman! Grandfather passed and he got homesick.
Feaster had the local media in a frenzy before he got on campus and being the #1 rated RB "perhaps" caused him to not work at it as hard as Etienne. Either way, I thought he had a productive Clemson career.
Melussi - in my opinion would have been the starter this season. But, he wanted to play behind a better OL. Somebody in his corner said, "If Travis Etienne couldn't do it behind that line, you might want to think about it"! He listened and got out of town! No. I don't know that; but I could easily imagine the conversation going something like that.
Dixon is just sour grapes over the freshmen. I agree with others; to my knowledge Dabo hasn't really ever made such a "Doby-Downer" comment about one of his players multiple times in public like that. I am sure they tried to handle it internally; to which LJD apparently/evidently wasn't having any of it.
Wish them well! But, the grass isn't always greener on the other side!

To the people who said Watson should start over Stoudt at FSU and UGA in 2014, and people who said Napier was a terrible choice for OC, and people who said Kyle Parker got coddled a little too much, and those who said maybe it wasn’t wise for Dabo to beat the “tOSU doesn’t deserve to be in the playoff” drum quite so hard in every interview, etc, etc, etc.
We get it, it’s better for you to just shape your opinions around whatever Dabo says because it’s easier than thinking for yourself.

Seeing that Bowman had zero carries versus Bama and 7 on the season (spread out vs USF and FAU), combined with the fact that Shippley shows as much if not more power than Chez says we are right where we would be regardless.

True. They left. However Bowman never played a snap. He was an early enrollee that left due to family reasons before Spring practice. Regarding Feaster and Melusi: They left because they believed they should be the featured back (trying to get a shot in the NFL). Are you suggesting Etienne should have been benched in favor of them?

well since the NCAA has decided its ok for kids to jump ship without having to sit out a year, they think hey, im not getting to play, i better leave. shows lot about their work character, i hate it for him, i was hoping he would get his act together but i dont think once he lost the starting job, he was willing to put in the work to get it back, will he do better some where else. maybe, but maybe not, he may go somewhere and not fit in and then hes waisted his last year but thats his choice, we live with it move on, I was so happy to see KB leave the team when he did cause you knew something was off with the team when he was on it, once he left, it was like the team jelled and we went on to win the national championship that year, im hoping the LJD fiasco was creating issues and now they are gone, the team may start to focus on other things like getting better.. we got a lot of improvements to make and i hope we do it,, we are not gonna keep all the 4 and 5 stars we get, cause these kids want playing time,

Feaster left because he wasn't better than Etienne and knew
Sep 21, 2021, 4:29 AM
|

it. Feaster wanted to be "the guy" so he needed to go elsewhere to have any shot at showing the NFL he could be a premiere back which is understandable. Feaster didn't have issues with our coaching staff - in player parlance it was purely a business decision.
Bowman was a true freshman who didn't even make it half-way through a single season. Once his only living relative in the area passed away he just wanted to be closer to home. Homesick - it happens to a lot of young people the first time they step away from their family support structure. My personal opinion is that his family should have told him to stick it out for the full year and then make a decision - teaches the child something about finishing what you start while giving them more time to adjust. Either way, there is absolutely no indications the coaching staff drove Bowman away...
Regarding LJD - from the public comments it is apparent that CJ was/is not happy with LJD (attitude or something) and as a result LJD was sitting on the bench. Maybe LJD felt it was "his turn" after sitting in the shadow of Etienne and that attitude didn't cut it with CJ?? Who knows? But I do know this - CJ Spiller is one of the finest football players and Clemson ambassadors to ever come out of our football program. There has never been any indication, publicly or otherwise, that CJ is anything but an upstanding citizen of high character on and off the field. Sometimes two good people just don't get along (it happens) but if I have to pick between LJD and CJ to stay with the Clemson program - CJ Spiller wins.
Melussi's departure is the only one that occurred without much comment. I think the most probable reason is that Melussi looked at the talent in the RB room last Spring (LJD, Shipley, Pace, Dukes, Mafah...) and knew that he was going to be sharing a lot of snaps. Like Feaster, I'm sure Melussi has goals of making the NFL and by transferring to school where he can be "the guy" he can increase his profile with NFL scouts. It made sense for him to make that move this past Spring and give himself 2 years to make an impression on the NFL instead of bolting before his senior year. By all indications - Chez made the right decision for himself and I am happy to see he is excelling as "the guy" at Wisconsin.
IMO, I really don't think it's time to send up red star clusters that something is wrong in our RB room. I believe we are just having some natural attrition that happens to all major programs but especially to those who recruit to a high level.

Those 4 are now gone basically because of 3 letters - ETN or NIL.
What would everyone be saying about the coaches not playing Shipley if the offense was the same with Dixon starting and playing the bulk of the plays?
If Dixon believes he can be the star somewhere else, I wish him the best. The transfer RBs so far, Feaster - back-up at Uof6C, Bowman - back-up, 53 yards through 3 games at FL, Mellusi - starter, 265 yards, and 5.2 per carry in 2 games at Wisc, and Dixon - ???
