Maybe an unpopular choice on the board, but....

if a change is made at OC because Morris leaves and takes a HC job, I would think that Jeff Scott could fill in and be a good OC. I am sure many want a "proven" guy, but JS has done great with the WR's, we recruit them well and they get better every year they are here, and he has been a great recruiter. I just believe Scott is a great coach and will be the natural fit if Chad ever leaves.
***Disclaimer-I am not saying I want Chad to leave or should. I am just speculating on what ifs.

1. Chad isn't leaving for a couple more years
2. Brad will be ready by then if he isn't already.

I really hope it isn't Brad.... But at least Clemson won't beat Clemson since Brad Scott could never beat the Tigers.

Yea I agree with you. Scott is just like his dad, being a great recruiter, and the time he has spent working with Morris has truly seasoned him. He at least deserves a shot at it.

I would like to see Jeff get a shot. Mainly because I don't think we need a complete overhaul of our offense, and bringing in a new guy in from the outside would likely mean that. I would just like to see Jeff make a few adjustments to what Chad has built--primarily adding in a QB under center with a FB and TB in the I formation package.
Jeff is also a great recruiter and he would likely move on elsewhere if not given the OC job.

Our receivers play physical

Look at how physical Sammy, Nuk was and Artavis is already getting that in him. That is at a position that is not known for physicality. I think we would be a more physical team under Scott.
Plus he is a Clemson guy that will not jump on the first train out.

That raises a few questions.

If/when Chad leaves, and Scott is promoted to OC, do we pay him a million-plus? Obviously we are willing to pay that for the right guy, and apparently the OC position at Clemson is worthy of a million dollar guy. Is that guy really Jeff Scott? If we are sure he's the guy, we should pay him that, as that's what the job is worth. If we aren't willing to pay him that, then it would seem we aren't really sure, that is to say he would have to prove he's worth it. Would it be in our best interest to do that, or should we go after a guy that we are confident is worth the 1-mil right off the bat?
I like Jeff Scott a lot, I think he has benefited tremendously from his time under Chad (and Dabo), and I would not be unhappy if he were the guy. Just throwing it out there for discussion.

I do not think you have to pay him 7 figures right away. Morris made 450k his first year and then got paid more after the first year. I think the promotion comes with a considerable pay raise. He makes 250k now, so you figure he gets double that and then gets reevaluated later. I do not think he has to get a million dollar pay raise though.
It is all speculation because I do not think Chad is going anywhere.

I agree. Chad has said repeatedly that it has to be the "right fit" for him to consider leaving Clemson for a HC job elsewhere. To me that means a successful program that is currently on the downside and don't forget that he makes about $1.35 million at Clemson and is in a successful program now. Chad stays here for a couple more years because he has Deshaun Watson as his QB and that will be fun for him to have that type of player to coach. By then, Jeff may be ready for an OC job.

Jeff Scott will be Chad's OC if Clemson doesn't promote him.

No doubt that he'd be Chad's first choice. The man is an incredible recruiter.
I'm not sure if we would promote him or not. I certainly think we would strongly consider him.

That comparison is not even close. Napier was a good position coach and recruiter but no where near ready to be an OC.

Right, b/c if one guy from a similar position isn't great,

then all from that position will stink, too.
HS coaches can't coach in college, either. College coaches can't succeed in the pro's. blah blah blah.
Napier was put into a difficult position b/c apparently he and Dabo didn't have the same philosophy.

Dang! You had a higher opinion of Spence than I did then....

...Napier was thrown into a job he wasn't ready for. And with a few years under his belt, I bet he'd say so, too. Learning under Spence couldn't have been a good situation.
Jeff has been learning under Chad for a few years ... a far better teacher. And he's been three knowing that his boss could be moving up, not fearing his removal. A world of difference learning your craft in those two environments.
