SC Collapse

I keep seeing people keep posting that SC is no-where near as good as last year's team and we will collapse. Apparently we will go 8-4 or 7-5, Spurrier will retire, and Clemson will go back to its dominating ways. If this doesn't happen this year, it'll happen the year after. How in the world will this happen?? Please explain who we'll lose to and how? I can only laugh at some of these delusional comments.

I don't think we'll go undefeated, I think we'll go 11-1 losing to UGA @ UGA. Maybe 10-2 if UF or Clemson upset us at home.

Yeah, I believe it'll be like the Michigan game. About 65% snaps go to Shaw, 35% for Thompson.

Here's How

The difference between winning and losing is sometimes razor thin and when you're dealing with college age kids, emotions can be back and forth. The thing usc-e has going for it, however, is an experienced QB and a friendly schedule.
First, the UGa game could go either way, but losing is certainly a possibility. I don't think Arkansas turns things around this quickly, but when you have a good coach arrive on campus, he can sometimes do amazing things, sometimes very quickly. Florida will be improved and a loss there is certainly a possibility. Again, I think UT is a couple years away, but you never know. Vandy has been improving by leaps and bounds. I think a loss to them in '14 on the road is much more likely than '13 at home, but they are a very well coached improving team. Losing to Clemson is always a possibility.
That's 6 very real possibilities and only 2 of them are stretches. Losing 4-5 games can happen. Clemson has had 2 seasons in recent memory where they lost more than most people would have thought. It can happen and once things go south, they can steamroll because of the kids' youth.
Realistically, I see '14 as a really tough year for the #####.

North Carolina has an excellent quarterback and some good receivers. If their coaching staff can figure a way to neutralize Clowney, I think they will be able to move the ball at will. The gamecocks will have all new linebackers and an average secondary. Just block Clowney!

An undefeated #1 USC playing an undefeated #2 Clemson in the last game of the season played at the cockroach. USC will be #1 because they're in the super-awesome SEC.
Not sure if I would go to that game because I don't trust the structural integrity of their stadium.

Is a real possibility. UF , UGA and Clemson are all capable . Vandy and UNC could pull an upset with a few breaks. Heck , UT and MSU have to be taken seriously. The thing about ya schedule is that you are going to have to score more because the defense will be less than dominant this season. I think 9 wins is a good year with that offense , which aside from the 2 qbs is largely inexperienced.

We have an experienced offense, Brandon Wilds and Mike Davis have started at some point, both TE's have experience, 4 of the 5 o-line return, our WRs are experienced but unproven besides Bruce, and then Shaw & Thompson at QB.

From 8-4 to 10-2.
I think you lose to UGA and Florida.
You should beat UNC. But you also have a tendency to start slow in the first game of the season, and UNC knows how to put up points.
The one true toss-up IMO is our game. There's no reason you shouldn't have at least 8 wins, but you won't surpass 10.
Probaby end up 9-3.

I think we'll lose at UGA but beat UF at home with them losing key members on their defense and really no improvement for their offense. I do not think we'll lose at home this year.

We'll see. You seem to be forgetting you're losing your top WR, top two RBs, and several key members of your defense as well.

Absolutely, we'll be in a lot of close games this season. WR concerns me but we do have one of the best TE duos in the nation. RB doesn't concern me, both Wilds and Davis have stepped up when needed in the past. The only thing that concerns me is the BPU. Miles and Lattimore were some of the best at blitz-pickup so we'll see how Wilds and Davis perform. Losing DJ is huge but I believe our LBs are more athletic now and will make some big plays but will get burned early in the season. Over the last several seasons we have learned how to win close games compared to the first 5 seasons in Spurrier's tenure at SC.

see the writing on the wall that the "glory days" of sc football are coming to an end (4 years of "glory years"). The best two players of all time at sc were Marcus Lattimore (whom y'all have not replaced that kind of talent) and Jadeveon Clowney (whom y'all will not be able to replace that kind of talent). So you may (or may not) have some success this year but the with you big in conference rivals coming out of their slump (which is why y'all had success to begin with) your little 4 year run is coming to an end so enjoy it while you can 'cause it's over---if not this year then next!

I listen to people dream all the time that Lattimore is gone, and that the run will end because they will never have another back that good. And they may not. But here is a news flash for you. His freshman year, Clemson decided to load the box to shut down Lattimore. Mission accomplished. Except it made CU single covers their wide outs that ran free at will. The last two years Lattimore didn't even play against CU. Add to that was that last year they lost their starting QB, and a backup made Clemson look silly as the back up went up and down the field. Now when Clowney leaves it will all be better. Do you think they are still not recruiting? Clemson has good players and will continue to have them. So will USC. But one person who doesn't graduate is that dammed ole ball coach. That is the difference.

Wilds and Davis have fill in duty experience, and neither are gamebreaker type backs like Splattimore was. Your WR core is unproven except Andre's cousin and that OLine is marginal. At best you avg 24 ppg this year . Good luck with that.

camps to "expect" each other to plummet gracelessly...or at least to wish fervently for such an ungainly outcome. Quite often, however, both are somewhat perplexed with the actual results, and, therefore, must recharge all batteries in preparation for the next round. There remains two indisputable facts: BOTH Coaches Swinney and Spurrier WILL win some games, perhaps, a good many...and both WILL have their own "special" comments about our rivalry. Meanwhile, you'll just have to accept our most fervent "wishes," while we will surely suffer yours! lol

SC has a very favorable schedule and it sets up nicely.
The game @UGA will obviously be a battle and home games against UNC, us and UF will be tough. Vandy will challenge but I think they take a small step back this year.
That 3 game road stretch in October....I'd like to say I see an upset there, but Arkansas just wont cut it, UT is in serious offensive rebuilding mode and I just don't know about Mizzou.
I see another 10-2 or better season if all players stay healthy and you get those favorbable bounces here and there.

UNC, they will come into ChickenCoop and dominate with their offense
UGA - they are a better team and it's a road game
Miss ST or Vandy - one of them will pull what will be called an upset,
Florida - they are a better team and will be better than last year
Clemson - the ride is over, Clemson has the better team this year
possible losses
UCF - don't be surprised to lose this road game, Tenn - they should have won last year, it will happen this year

UNC has a nice offense, but zero defense. None. Nada.
Agree with UGA
Ehhh... not seeing it with Miss. State or Vandy.
Agree with Florida.
If we play like we've all seen us play, we'll win. An LSU type game from the offense, minus the turnovers, and we could win by a decent margin.
They won't lose to UCF.
Tennessee lost way too much to be any good this year.

I have a hard time seeing all this happen, even as a Clemson fan.

SC has a very easy schedule this year
Jun 27, 2013, 10:57 PM

They play UGA (who is completely rebuilding their D) right after what figures to be a BATTLE with us. Keep in mind how LSU's players were dropping like flies in the bowl game last year. Advantage goes to Carolina (even though UNC certainly COULD upset them, I just don't really see it happening).
Ark, Tenn, UCF, Vandy? I don't see any great teams in there. Do not even get me started on Kentucky and Missouri, who are both horrendously bad. For all the gum flappin that Carolina does about the SEC, they sure have a candy ### schedule.
Then they play Florida, who I'm not sure how talented they are. They really got a hurtin put on them by Louisville in the bowl. But then again they destroyed Carolina last year so I'll give them the advantage.
Then they play us. I certainly feel we have the more talented team this season, and I believe we will win. However, I've said that before in the past four years and obviously it hasn't turned out that way, so I'll put that one as a toss up (with the advantage going to us of course).
The bottom line is that Scar loves to wave its SEC flag around, when in reality, they don't play anyone relevant in the SEC (all of the good teams are in the West).

To be fair we only have 3 tough games

UGA, FSU, and USuC. Maybe throw in GT and their Mickey Mouse offense. That's college football. The elite teams easily beat the teams they're supposed to beat and win against other elite teams or lose in a close one. I'm just glad that we're finally on the right track again.

I agree, I wouldn't say we have a grueling schedule aside from those three games. My point being is that since we don't have a tough schedule, you don't see Clemson fans running around chanting "ACC! ACC! ACC!" On the other hand, Scar has a schedule that is no tougher than ours and you will undoubtedly hear all of their fans talk about how the ACC is a cupcake conference and the SEC is God's gift to football.

I just hear that you lost a lot of your D that was part of a very good recruiting class and that you have small receivers. Oh, and you have a manimal named Clowney. How do you think you guys would do if Clowney went down? Seems like that would be like us losing Tajh. From what little I've read, your O can be mediocre because Clowney can get the ball back for you and carry the team on his back.

I don't see a collapse but i also don't see 12-0 like I've read. Your QB situation is very shaky, two QBs = no QBs. Running back is a question mark, can Davis be the guy? Lack of receivers has to be scary for you guys. Offensive line will be fine, defensive line will be great, linebackers could be a question mark, secondary will be fine. I don't see an implosion but I also wouldn't start counting your chickens and scheduling an SEC East title right now.

I have to disagree with your position.
South Carolina's quarterback position is far from shaky. The Gamecock's two QB option isn't out of necessity but of luxury as each have proven themselves more than efficient - I believe Shaw is a fourth year senior with the highest winning percentage in the school's history and Thompson has performed very capably when called on - I do not believe there is any continuity issues with the offense and the two are interchangeable.
Didn't Wilds fill in for Lattimore two years ago as a true frosh? I recall him doing a pretty decent job, esp against Tenn. Davis did well last year in a limited role as a true frosh.
Their receiving corp has three third year guys (Ellington, Byrd and Jones) who catch the ball well enough and move upfield - don't forget about the excellent pass catching TE in Anderson.
The LB will be a question mark but the surrounding cast should help them along.
9-3 or 10-2

my thoughts

Since when does unproven equal bad? Behind sammy, the WRs are notnproven. Mcdowell is really unproven. There aee always guys step up, just because we dont have superstars top to bottom doesnt mean we will dropoff.
Now, do we have spots to fill on defenae? Yes but let us be very realistic. Our linebackers have not been very good the last few years so i dont think they can be worse. We will be young there but overall more talented but will make lota of mistakea in coverage. Our dline will create a lot of pressure tho so in my mind they offset eachother. Our only reall big loss is Swearinger. Jow the secondary does this year will tell the tale.
I think beating UGA in Athens will be tough. I think we will drop one more, probably Florida but I do think we keep streak alive vs you guys and finish 10-2.I think clemson will field a solid team but i think it is all mental honestly. Tahj is great QB1 but we are in his head and playing at home is the key this year. Thr streak will end soon for sure but not just yet.

I think both teams go 10-2 with Clemson beating South Carolina. I'm not as confident as some, but I just feel like this team stacks up better than last year's team. Both programs have holes that need to be filled before we can start guaranteeing wins though. The game in November will be decided by one score or less either way in my opinion.

The offense will replace 3 starters.
Lattimore at running back, TJ Johnson at center, and Ace Sanders at WR.
Return 4 of 5 OL, Bruce Ellington and Byrd at WR who contributed last season, two solid QBs, and two running backs, Davis and Wilds, who logged some snaps within the past two seasons. Wilds actually took over full time when Lattimore went down 2 seasons ago and did fairly well.
The defense will replace 6 starters.
DJ st Safety, Holloman at Spur, Shaq and Demario at LB, Byron J at DT, and Devin Taylor at DE.
Return the best player in college football, JD Clowney along with All-SEC DT K. Quarles. Chaz Sutton will man the other DE position and he play significant snaps last season. Look at him to have better numbers than Devin Taylor did under new DLine coach Deke Adams. Linebackers will be replaced by guys who are fresh off the meat grinder so who know how that will turn out. Spur will be manned by either Sharod Golightly or Diggs. Both played the postion well when given an opportunity. Corners will remain the same. Hampton and Legree. Brison williams at one saftey spot, and TJ Gurley most likely at the other.
Last years team lost two first round picks off of it and was still a top D in the country. So i feel, with the talent that has been accumulated, the D will fare just as well. The offense, while returning a lot, does lose lattimore and has no big play WR. So we shall see! I am going with 10 wins with losses to UGA and a slip up.

CLOWNEY

Is not the best defensive player in college football , much less the best overall. He is very good and will be a top ten pick , but lets not get ahead of ourselves with these "best ever" claims . 8-5 , thats what i predict for Sackerlina. 10 wins looks like a longshot with the team having a pretty solid sched and much less quality and depth at a few very key predictions.

Take off the orange glasses, Clowney will be the #1 pick next year and you are one of the few who doesn't think he is the best defensive player in college football. Ask Tajh what he thinks.

I said he would be a top ten pick. I guess my glasses might be a little orange tinted but there are at least 4-6 dedensive players in next yrs NFL draft that are as solid a pick as Doo Doo Clowney.

Noah Spence and Mario Edwards are two DEs that could be early draft picks , That DT Johnson at LSU is a top ten pick. Armstead at Oregon will be a beast. Clowney is a good one , but he isnt the greatest thing on the planet , unless you work for E$EcPN and get paid to hype the league you are in a huge business contract with.
