4-star TE commits to Georgia
4-star 2022 tight end Oscar Delp has committed to Georgia over Clemson, South Carolina and Michigan on Wednesday night. Delp is rated as high as the No. 2 tight end in the nation (Rivals and 247Sports). He visited Clemson for the SC State game and also attended Dabo Swinney camp, the Elite Retreat, Read Update » |

This stems from our lackluster performance thus far.

If that’s true then he’s as short-sighted as some of our “fans”. He said he wanted to go somewhere that felt like home - several times. He’s from GA. He would have gone there if we were 5-0.

It is not a critical position for Tigers offense. UgA had enough TE's and it is not like they produce much.

Your initial comment I can agree with to a point but not necessarily in this case. If you are a recruit and sitting on the fence, human nature is such that the decision might be swayed by performance of the program in that moment of decision. For us on this board, we should know how good this program is. It's a fair statement to say that our program is superior to UGA in that we have been in the playoffs year after year. We've been 6 times-they've been once. Lament this TE if you must but anyone who can see beyond the end of their nose can see the numbers, not to mention the integrity of our program

Smart decision...
Since 2012 UGA has put 5 TE's into the NFL since 2012.
Clemson has 2.
Further, season to date:
Clemson TE's have caught 11 passes for 67 yards & 0 touchdowns.
Georgia TE's have caught 24 passes for 374 yards & 4 touchdowns.

This is becoming a disturbing trend to say the least. Unfortunately this problem starts to feed itself. When we were in our prime a few years ago, recruits did a lot of the recruiting. I don’t see that happening now and it’s starting to show when you continue to lose high profile targets. Georgia is now using that same tactic - and of course they put on a show every time they take the field…..

In fairness, UGA's numbers are over 6 games, and ours are over 5 games.
Still, that's 4 (62 yards per game) targets per game, vs 2.2 (13.7 yards per game).
I have to think if we targeted the TE 5-6x a game, that would free up the coverage on our WR's. If I was a DC, the TE would be the last thing I would focus on.
Said differently, we're not very balanced, and it makes it very easy for DC's to game prep for us.

On this we totally agree. We use our TE as a substitute for when there absolutely is nobody else open. Sadly, we don't even have time for our QB to check down to the TE that is open. Our problem isn't in our TE's, nor really our receivers. It's our OL doesn't provide enough protection for our QB to even look for a secondary receiver target. Get that fixed, and I'd be willing to wager that our offensive performance would be exponentially better. That, my friends, is "The Elephant In The Room"! It has resided there for a long, long time, and Coach Caldwell is not the solution, as nice a guy as he is, and as much as I like him as a person. He is not taking us to where we must go in order to get back to "The Mountain Top".

Don't forget that at least 2 passes have hit Galloway perfectly in his hands and he dropped. I know he had one other pass that was slightly high, probably a little hot but yet catchable. Then I know Allen dropped a good pass that would have been a first down.
So if our TE's were more reliable their numbers would look better. Those are just plays I recall and there might be more. It would be interesting to see targets vs catches. Although I agree that our TEs have been under utilized since Leggett and DW4 have moved on. We were still heavily using Morris playbook at that point.
I don't understand how Lay has not seen the field 3yrs into the system and considering his size. At this point, they should just let him put on another 20-25lbs and put him on the OL if he can't get on the field as a TE.

Interesting stats. Tigers likely have the least production from that position than most every team in the country except for Army and Navy who pass very little.

Frankly, if I felt I was a top flight TE and didn't have any orange ties, I would have done the same thing. Kid comes to a live game this year and we throw one pass to a TE. At this point these kids are making business decisions.

You don't know do you? That's because the TE has ZERO catches in the game.

TE did not develop that résumé by himself. If you look at our performance since Jeff Scott left it’s pretty obvious TE is in over his head.
It’s hilarious that some of you people think that being a fan means being stupid and blindly loyal. Anyone even remotely paying attention can see what’s going on.

We were the #10 offense and #6 pasing offense last year.

Please explain how the performance dropped and how TE is in over his head, then go on to explain what is going on.
I think it's easy to see what;s going on, but it has nothing to do with a change in the #10 offense. This QB played brilliantly in this SAME #6 passing offense last year but is struggling with a mental block this year. This same QB has the all-time comeback record in Death Valley history, and he has the all-time record for opponent passing yard in the storied history of Notre Dame.
Same offense, different QB play. THAT'S what' going on.
I am far from "stupid and blindly loyal". Contrarily, it's ignorant to cancel 6 years of the best run in Clemson history based on losing a WR coach who occasionally gave ideas through the headsets. Tony Elliot coached the #10 offense and #6 passing offense just last year, and he has most definitely has been the primary playcaller for the previous 6 seasons.
What we need to have happen is the QB to work through his mental block. Period.

Agree 100%. It’s business. Which school will allow him to have the opportunity to showcase his talent. It’s been years since we have had any TE production and not because we have not recruited talent at the position.

Completely expected. He’s been a silent to UGA for this entire year.
People are so easily discouraged by UGA at the moment…they fail to realize the continuity of what they will be losing next season on both sides of the football…they will be in a complete and utter rebuild for the next couple seasons…right now it’s their time..:let em have it. 8 of their 11 starters on defense are seniors or higher.

Have you seen the production from our 3 deep…we rotate so many young guys in they have plenty of experience. Our leading tackler isn’t even a starter.
Keep telling yourself things to make you feel better about the bag of lies you were fed by your own coaching staff and local radio. Great programs learn to adapt to the environment.

Might be time to get a new OC & a TE coach. Inexcusable to let the # 1 rated TE (Skinner) who is from your home state get away, then you miss on #2 TE (Delp). Time for change if the objective is to remain a top tier winning program

Skinner has been all over the map and Clemson backed off him quite a while ago. We went hard for Delp, but he been projected to UGA forever, and he went to his home state school. Like Lattimore to USC a few years back. To read anything else into it is emotional and not based on fact.

Not surprised. At this point our best bet is going after Benji Gosnell. We maybe able to flip Keyan Burnett or Elijah Brown, but that is not a given. Gosnell is in NC and we usually recruit NC pretty well.
