Hurricane David hit the Savannah/Beaufort area. It wasn't a strong hurricane but it brought a bunch of wind and rain. I didn't have school, so I went out to the golf course to see if I could help out. It had already rained all night, but "the hard stuff" hadn't hit yet.
Superintendent said, you have one thing to do - take all the flagsticks out of the holes and lay them in the greenside bunkers so they don't blow away or snap off when the wind gets bad.
I got a golf cart but I bogged it down about 50' down the way. Walked back and got another cart. It bogged down too on the 1st hole (we didn't have paved cartpaths at the time). No way was I gonna get around the course in a cart. So.....I had to walk the 18 holes and gather the flagsticks.
About that time the heavy stuff started. That was one LOOOONG, wet walk. But I made it.
Working on a golf course, I have plenty of Man vs Nature stories, getting hit by lightning on a tractor, hitting a nest of yellowjackets weedeating, snake and alligator encounters, and more. But that walk in a hurricane was most memorable.
