MAGA. Make America Great Again

When I first heard this slogan I'm thinking WW2? 1950s? maybe the 1980s? Maybe when we walked on the moon? Won the Cold War?
Nope. The natural question if Trump is making America great AGAIN, then what's the benchmark? The high point?

1870 to 1913? He picks that period? Economists have a term for this period in the US. It's called the Long Depression.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Depression
There may be a method to his madness, but that method is wrong. America can't run on tariffs. At least not with social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and a strong military. We are the world's largest consumer. We import $4T a year. That's the universe of goods to tariff. And that number is the highest on Earth because we leverage the strength of our dollar to make imports cheaper. If you add tariffs, you remove that dollar leveraging benifit. The result of that ultimately is less imports. You can't take our import numbers and superimposed tariffs on that number and come up with a solution because that number is so high because of no tariffs. Worst part is this is just money oit of American pockets, still going to the government. It's a tax and the reason Congress was originally in charge of tariffs.
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt calling him dumb. The alternative is worse.

Thinking the U.S. was strongest from 1870-1913 and based on that, going all in on tariffs explains some things, but I know he's wrong about that.
Some decisions you have to scratch your head over. One familiar to all of us was hiring Wes as the DC. That was not a good decision by Dabo. It was most definitely outside the box, but it was likely to fail and it did.
Dabo made moves to rectify that. Will Trump be smart enough to realize this is a mistake. Stay tuned, for the unfolding of a New Golden Age or a massive clean up in all the aisles.
However, this ain't a game. Trump's pining for the good old days of 1870-1913, may well be one of the most destructive and uninformed decisions made by a President. This is a massive gamble.

1950's again. He was a kid and everything takes on a magical quality of sorts. America was knocking out modern and shiny new appliances, cars, houses everywhere for mom, dad, and the kids, as a nation we were investing in and building new highways and roads and being our normal innovative selves and society. Most importantly, though, Donald had the warm embrace of his mother during that time - probably the only period in his life where he experienced any true, non-transactional joy.
It's a shame he can't realize he will never be 8 years old again and that you can never go back home.
