They would probably be doing him a favor. I don't know why anyone would want to put up with the pressure of recruiting and coaching at his age.

Every coach that hits 70 should retire. Your energy to lead young men has dwindled, the wear and tear of recruiting, and the inability to win at the highest level is gone. You will never see a coach past 70 win a National Title. If you look at all the history of the Greatest Coaches, you will find that none have won a Natty beyond 70. There's a time and a recognition where any coach needs to know when to hang it up. UCLA's John Wooden understood that. He had won numerous National Titles, but knew when his time was up. He retired at 64, a smart man. He everyone clamouiring for more, but he knew, He told an author in his "They call me coach book< "I had to". Nick Saban failed to win another Natty after 70. You have certain men in coaching who just don't get it. Why in the world does FSU's Leonard Hamilton (76), and Miami's Jim Larranega (74), and San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich (76) still coach? It is insane. Neither of these men will ever win any title or championship at this point, in fact their powers will wane as they continue to do it. This the case with Mack Brown at 73. Your best years are over. Move on. No way the UNC faithful can't see this.

So sounds like retiring, but I'm sure some of that is being forced out...
Boy, they were really playing well for awhile, and then BC throttled them in last game. That sounds like Mack said well, yeah maybe now should be a good time.

I'm confident he steps down end of year.
He stated he was stepping down mid-season, then renegged, and I bet they want him to stick through the EOY.

Unless the top head coach prospects are willing to wait, it benefits a school like UNC to be the only Power 4 job opening.
