Twelve years ago, Holly Warlick was prepared to come to Clemson to resurrect and lead this program but the University would not pay her the money she wanted and deserved and so here we are, twelve years and thirty six win later. Clearly, wimmins basketball is not a priority for the Clemson University Athletic Department.

But considering our success in other sports you would think they would have an issue with being absolutely terrible. I would be happy with a decent women's team that makes the tournament once every 4-5 years or so.

Loved me some jim davis. but what were his acc record his last couple years? the program slipped badly toward the end of his tenure. it was time for a change, but it was handled so very poorly.
and holly warwick has UT out of the top 25 for the first time in about 25 years NO doubt she would have been a better hire than any of the 3 we've hired. but no guarantee she's have had much more success.
think the problem is not just quality of coaching. to have even a modicum of success, we're gonna have to up our commitment.. HC salary, salary pool for assts, recruiting budget, etc.

Holly Warwick has been a disaster at UT, particularly considering the fact that she inherited the second best program in the country. She may be gone after this year.

While 2015/2016 has been a bit of a down year for them, her team was 30-6 last year, tied for first in the SEC and made it the Elite Eight. In 2014, the team finished 29 - 6, tied for 2nd in the $EC and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. In 2013, the team finished 27-8, won the $EC and made it to the Elite Eight.
No way in he!! UT fires her after this season.

Maybe some Tiger fans would actually like success for all Clemson sports including both basketball programs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the sentiment that believes we have the means to compete and become tournament worthy some seasons.
Go Tigers!

I don't know what it takes to be successful in women's basketball
Feb 22, 2016, 3:41 PM
|
|
But I'm guessing it involves the things it takes to be successful in any college sport:
-Commitment from the university -A good coach who can recruit -Nice facilities -Fan interest/support
Hopefully the Littlejohn improvements will help with recruiting. I'm assuming that we do not have the talent that the other ACC teams have. If not, why? A fun, passionate black coach who has had success elsewhere should be able to get some good players. If she hasn't, why is that the case?
I get that we don't want to overspend for a women's basketball coach. It is not a money maker and there is minimal fan interest. But I do want to see us be competitive, and the last decade has been abhorrent.

Clemson needs to change the way it looks at women's basketball. A successful women's program can generate a lot of revenue today. This isn't the 80s. There's actually a market for good women's teams.
And the sad thing is, the top women's teams are more fundamentally sound that the men's teams. Watch UConn play. There are very few men's teams that play that good of basketball. Most rely on pure athleticism instead of solid fundamentals.

Sometimes numbers speak louder than words. Never understood letting Jim Davis go. Seemed to be a h£ll of a guy, and always had the wimminz in the top half of the league.
As I remember, we usually finished 3rd-5th in league play Still a head scratcher to me

Davis was hired to coach the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx. So obviously very highly regarded in women's basketball circles.
Since being fired McKinney has only been an assistant at Elon.
Since being forced Coleman has crawled back to Penn State to take up a position she held before her time at Clemson

Is sufficient to get you fired. Obviously the hires have been bad but doesn't mean Davis should have been kept either. I don't follow the program so not sure how young we are or if we have a good class coming in. I thought I saw we had signed a really good player out of GA??
