Not really. Dabo could have given DJ one drive to begin the game and then shown him the proverbial door. Matter of fact, he could have given him one snap to start the game and that would have gotten DJ the $.

If that's the case then Dabo got some explaining to do. Team before money. If DJ wanted his 1mil he should have played like it. However I have a hard time believing this rumor.

the NIL deal is between the player and the one offering it, has nothing to do with the coach or school. Just some dirtpecker trying to stir the pot. I can see an NIL deal between the player/entity tied to performance as to the total dollar figure though. Like you finish here in the Heisman, make All Conference, you get this much. You don't you get this much

But...if he knew of that kind of deal for DJ, Dabo would probably be very hesitant to not start him. But that wouldn't explain why Cade didn't play at all vs the coots!

Maybe only for keeping a good image.
It brings up a good question...Will NIL deals start dialing back after a few seasons. Are they getting their money's worth in good publicity. It seems like the Texas AM deals were a bad investment. Hee hee.

Even if that were true, that doesn't explain no Cade in 2nd half of SC game. Also, what moron would pay 1 mil after DJ's performance last year? He literally had one of the worst ( if not THE worst ) season out of any Clemson QB in the past 40 years.

These types of incentives and provisions are littered throughout contracts.
The question becomes, “how much of NIL contractual agreements are shared with the coaches and athletic department?”
Are these NIL agreements TOTALLY PRIVATE between the player and the sponsor?
At any rate, how hard would it be to “accommodate” the contract provisions in favor of the player by the coach in what over what is nothing more than a speculative decision, i.e., if Cade started, Clemson would win. No way to know that for a certainty.
At any rate, I suspect that Cade is about to come into some NIL money after the ACCCFG MVP. Subway anyone?
