Okay junge, I'm in need of some advisement
Aug 18, 2015, 11:12 AM
|
|
So wife found a 12-week old full-blooded German Shepherd pup for sale. My 11-year old has always wanted a GS but I am adamant that I do not want another dog. I have made this known repeatedly over the past 2 days. They went yesterday to see the pup and my son took pigs of pup on his phone to show me. She's a beautiful pup but I still say no.
I guess what I need from you guise is
ideas for a name for the pup, she's a she.
I know I won't win this war with my wife and oldest son.

Kevin. Like the abandoned kid in Home Alone. 'Cause your wife and kid will love on that puppy until she isn't a puppy any more, then you will be the unwilling permanent caretaker, and this will just add to your hatred of dogs.

You read like a closeted cat lover. Let it go, man. Breathe. Tell ya what, just tell your wife that you would rather have a shitzu. Best of both worlds. She gets a "dog", and you get a pet that closely resembles a cat. You can still name it Kevin.

Aug 18, 2015, 11:47 AM

1. Your 11 year old has a cell phone. This in itself puts you in the category of real stupid. 2. I've seen no mention of a 24 acre dog park nearby. Sounds like you are a future Lakebum neighbor that will chain to tree and trashy. 3. You didn't cc me on your tmale to Neal for his input. 4. If you cannot control your snot nosed 11 year old and your wife that is clearly taller than you, HOW DO YOU EXPECT TO BE DOMINANT OVER A DOG?
I think you are better suited for a hamster.

My theory remains.
Aug 18, 2015, 4:35 PM
|
|
Postulate 1. If you think there's anyway to provide or accommodate the wishes of your family you make that decision early and prevent caving late. Pick your battles carefully and make sure you say yes each and every time you can say yes.
Postulate 2. If a man ever caves late just to end an argument or apparent conflict of opinion you've given up your position of authority. Don't 'wear down,' if you are right.
Postulate 3. The unification of the parental unit must be maintained even if there's not logic or reason to it's decision. Dood, I've been there and done that, it's a bich. It's usually solvable by telling the kids to talk to their mother and see what she thinks. It shows respect for the woman and directs the kids to her for the authority she wants to exercise over them. It also shows the kids that you respect their mother. It's positive in every way unless you think a woman and children can be 'managed,' with sheer force of will.
