Are Bates and Hall leaving? We don’t have any DL commits now, right? That seems odd for a team with such a strong history of putting defensive linemen in the league. It’s either coaches leaving, NIL, or this extra year for players that’s throwing this off.

This was a week recruiting class when it came to numbers and just getting worse. Even worse is we don't have sheet lined up as potential signees except Williams. Will be taking a lot of 3rd and 4th choices, usually reserved for the teams we laugh about

This class was planned to be a “teens class size-wise “from the getgo. Don’t panic. Mostly you got 3 guys from IMG that bailed. Just a panic attack. If they don’t want Clemson as a home, good luck to them. We’ll be fine. After all, I rather have Dabo handling the current situation, and he will skillfully, than any other college coach in America. He’s a blessing to us.

If Reed leaves and we lose this CB class that will be very sad. We have plenty of talent to play next year, but we saw the impact of attrition this year and was hoping we wouldn’t have to go through that again.

ands thats going back as long as I can remember. Even our 3-8 team in 98 had like 5 or 6 NFL players on that side of the ball. We may not look exactly the same, but can generate comparable results as it relates to us wining games. There is so much noise with social media and couple that with emotional kids, things can go the other way pretty quick.

Sorry but our number of defensive players in the NFL has not been a large number for years. Coach V knew how to adapt a defense to his players and was able to produce winning defenses. We have not always had the most talent but we had the coaches that knew what to do with the players.

Im not talking about players in the NFL...referring to the fact that we have always had solid defenses at Clemson, yes BV's units were excellent year in and year out but not always foolproof.
Our success on the defensive side of the ball didn't leave for good.

Personally, I'd choose Nick. Very few elite coordinators want to stay a coordinator. They want head-coaching gigs. You tolerate a year or two with Saban, and you go to coach an elite program. Venables had to prove year after year that he was the best defensive coordinator in football to get a worthwhile offer. Elliott, probably for good reason, still hasn't gotten one. Scott had to leave for South Florida.
Saban's coaching tree includes Dantonio, Bobby Williams, Jimbo, Muskrat, Derek Dooley, Kiffin, Pruitt, Smart, and Sark. They all got premier coaching gigs. You can't argue with Saban's track record.

A few points…
Venables and Elliott could’ve taken a gig before now - Dabo does a better job of keeping coordinators because he’s tolerable.
Nick Satan likes to pick the best coordinators. His formula is to take guys proven to be phenomenal coordinators that have fallen flat as head coaches (Peter principle). This includes Kiffin, Sark, and now O’Brien. This is just pure genius IMO. We should try to do the same.
Also, Satan does not keep guys at coordinator he shouldn’t just because of past accomplishments and because they are good Christian family guys and friends. He operates in true best is standard fashion.
Just my opinion. Can’t really compare the two situations as apples to apples.

if its an offer for the DC positon too....thats an upgrade for him, certainly so if Dabo doesn't offer the same. BV taking recruits is another thing. I dont think that is going to happen. If a kid like Campbell wanted to play only for BV then so be it. I have no problem with the kid switching to OU...same with the kid form Kansas. But, if BV actively pursued kids then thats a different deal...but I dont see that happening. I could be wrong though.

We will be lucky to finish in the Top 20 recruiting this year. Dabo or no one will be able to save this class. I see Everette leaving next. There are also rumors that Kanak is thinking of leaving because he was a BV fan. This recruiting class will be filled with 3 stars and a few 4/5 stars. We will finish 4th or 5th in the ACC alone. Let this sink in, UNC will have the #1 recruiting class in the ACC. Lets hope we do not lose current players too. We need to announce a DC immediately and it needs to be a big name.

At the end of the day, for elite recruits it’s ultimately about playing for coaches you like at a school that you believe gives you the best chance to play in the NFL. Period.
Don’t get me wrong, other things such as the family culture matter (and I’m very glad we have it). This is in no way disparaging that wonderful aspect of our program. But these decommitments are a prime example of how that is lower down the priority list for many recruits.

Judge, you are exactly right. Unless a fan has been a player, he does have any idea who many hours and how much hard work football players put into a season. Regardless of what recruits say, they are playing for their coach, not the school. A college President or Alumni Association President does give a pre-game speech, a coach does and when a player develops a relationship with a coach, it is traumatic when that coach leaves.

I have been a Clemson fan since the 8th grade in the 80's. As a matter of fact, Im from Louisiana and currently live in Arkansas. Try being a Clemson fan when all your good friends are LSU fans and see how that goes for you. I am a realist. If you think we will compete with 3 stars then good luck. While, I may have never played football, I did go to Southeastern La Univ on a Baseball scholarship. Im frustrated because we cannot afford to lose so many good players when there is so few left to get. Something needs to happen fast! So thanks for your input!!!

Dabo is going to have to hurry up and make some decisions on coaches. This whole process even with TE is just dragging A$$, the stability needs to be set soon. Only good thing with recruiting is we still have til FEB to get some guys since this is still just the early signing period next week.

The most pressing issue for Dabo will be whether he wants to construct a new senior staff from the inside or outside. Inside is comfortable, but when you are trying to maintain a BCS eligible team, filling the top staff positions with lesser knowns is a high risk approach. That is why Nick Saban often goes outside to get his OCs and DCs. Venables became famous here and lingered. That is not how it normally goes. Now he's gone, and the hemorrhaging of future talent has begun. Does an avalanche of de-commits await? Too soon to tell.
We now see what a luxury it was to have a staff that was both stable and famous. When OCs and DCs are "hot", they are ambitious and won't hang around for long. That does not seem to be the Dabo way, but it is almost impossible to have staff fame and staff stability simultaneously, and therein lies Dabo's conundrum.
If Dabo stays with what is comfortable, Clemson will be drawn farther and more permanently back in the ACC pack.

Looks like we can take IMG players off our radar. I truly hope Dabo has other prospects out there but the clock is ticking down to next Wednesday.

Keith Moon predicted he would be the world's all-time best drummer.
He ran over and killed his personal driver. He hired help to break the knuckles of mates who slept with his (ex) wife. He lived on amphetamines and brandy. He drove his Lincolns and Caddies into hotel lobbies and swimming pools. He routinely blew up his hotel rooms.
Pretty typical behavior for some of our more out-of-control T-Netters in times of duress.
But Moon was an excellent drummer.

When you lose a CBV you have to expect to shifting around - especially with the ME-generation we are now dealing with, the Portal, NIL, and on and on. We just need to establish our new equilibrium and move forward with a less-than-our-standard year and recruiting class. We are strong enough to get past this but I am a little surprised at how slowly Dabo is responding. He has always had a Plan B and quickly replaced anyone who left and has appeared to have know what he would do before they even left - something I have always admired him greatly for. Things have never changed this quickly across the board so we need to get a staff in place and show stability so we can pick up players for everyone we lost. Remember we aren't the only school changing coaches so everyone should be fair game at this point!
We've got tons of spots now for recruits and to open up the Portal - it does work both ways you know Dabo!
Get what we can for early signing, win bowl game with new staff, regular signing period and Portal in spring - we have a boatload of talent, just need to plug some holes and we'll be fine.

If a kid will bolt at this point, knowing nothing but Coach V is gone, honestly we didnt need him around here anyway. It takes more willpower to succeed at this level than he just displayed. Having said that, who really knows why he decomitted- Next Man Up.
