Lot of this is probably true, being very impressed with yourself, slacking off on the recruiting trail, hiring buddies, lack of innovation on offense, lack of fight on defense , we’ve seen it all the last couple seasons. The same sort of complacency creeps into every organization. Successful companies have to go through it, even marriages and charitable organizations. They have a run of good times and start taking it for granted, and stop doing the little things that brought about the success in the first place. I’ve had to endure it in my own company, we’ve had a couple of good years and I think we’ve made it and sure enough, the next year I lose a key employee or key client, and it seems like we have to start all over again.
What is the answer? I think it’s relentless self scouting and not letting your standards waiver in the least. For example, I’ve seen what I consider some pretty weak takes on the recruiting trail of late, players that we necessarily would not of signed five years ago. I don’t know what is behind this, maybe it’s NIL, or maybe we’re just not working hard enough for the top recruits. Don’t get me wrong, we gave signed some good players lately, but I remember when Clemson was building, the recruiting classes seem to be stacked with unique talent from top to bottom. I just don’t see it now. Also, Dabo seemed more than willing to send guys packing if they weren’t cutting it. Maybe that’s still the case, but if we don’t see dramatic improvement in the offense, and more intensity on defense after next year, I think maybe Clemson’s ship has sailed.

The hardest thing to do in sports is to repeat as champion.
Perhaps the hardest thing to do in life is honest self evaluation

And just had the #1 recruiting class. They aren’t going anywhere.

Bama won twice - once on the last play (aTm) and once on the play that took Texas QB Ewers out.
I would have liked to see them play UGA.
