Of people that post on the politics board on TigerNet . Please, if you’re not afraid post your true age. I was born in October of ‘89 right after Hugo.

I remember the "horrible economic times" during Carter when my dad could support a family of 4 on a single income and my another could pick us up from school and take us to the free public pool. Later we became the first generation who were considered "latch key kids", that came home to an empty house in the 80s because both parents had to work. We also watched Alf

There is no cure for the common birthday.

I think the key is to stay mentally and physically active. Getting ready to hike a mountain with the missus now.
Lot of my friends have let themselves go, which is sad. Was on an extended trip with a buddy out west for 2 weeks. I realize he probably won't be able to do this going forward. He's carrying way too much weight and doesn't seem motivated to try to reverse course.
Gotta fight the Old Man every day. Ultimately he will win, but I'm gonna make him earn his money taking me down.

You and I share the same attitude. Age will win but that sucker better know he’s in for a fight. We’re thinking alike today. I took the day off and we’re also going to the hills to hike. I just finished a 5.5 mile run this morning now going to hit the trails. I’m fighting. I will lose one day but not today. lol. Anyway, what a beautiful day to head to the mountains. Enjoy yourself.

During my youth had a glimpse of America that doesn’t meet the sanitized version. Blacks were commonly described using the N word. They use to show American military casualties on the nightly news. Young people on college campuses rose up and said enough of their generation was being wasted in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Chemical waste from the industrial complex was poisoning or rivers, air and land in our communities. Localized cancer clusters in contaminated communities were well documented. Chemical exposures in the workplace were also common and mostly ignored.
A lot of the music had some excellent guitar and lyrics that captured the causes of the generation.

You mention racism/discrimination, and when I was a young kid, our schools were still segregated and black people sat in the back of the bus and in the balconies in theatres and in special sections of restaurants. Racial discrimination was very real, open, and widely accepted. LGBTQ+ peeps have a lot more freedom and legal protection now than then. Also disabled and handicapped people. There is still, and probably always will be work to be done in those areas, but we've come a looooooong way in my lifetime. I understand that all scientific and medical discoveries and advancements come with some potential trade-off or unavoidable consequence, but overall those things have made our lives much easier and better. We gain something, we lose something; it's always, and I mean ALWAYS been that way. That's just the way it is. Make the best of it; enjoy the gains, and deal with the changes.

Here’s an observation I’ve made and a way to know you’re getting old. I find myself now doing this! Ask a senior how old they are. It can be May and they will say “I’ll be 74 in January”. Well, yeah but it’s May! Ask a 25 year old their age. “I’m 25”. That’s it. Nothing more.

The key is to keep the weight off. I try and stay reasonably active mentally & physically.
