I had Trump pretty much pegged by 2017. I voted for him in 2016 over Hillary. Had her figured out too. But it didn't take long to see right through Trump. I don't trust the guy, and no one does.
All these MAGA types were completely taken by his promises, and many are sorely disappointed. Heck, I was in 2016.
Everyone gets taken at some point in their lives. A woman, a politician, a business partner, whatever. It happens. HOW YOU DEAL WITH THAT determines the rest of your life. Some people just refuse to believe they were taken and shut down. Others get angry (MTG approach). Some people just won't accept the truth. Business owners who voted for Trump, who are now losing their employees to ICE raids, Marines who served whose wives are being deported, no one thought about this. Just sounds good, gets my vote. Well, sounds good, and reality often are not the same thing. Trump promises to slash spending, does this whole DOGE thing with Musk, and nothing is saved. He then lobbies the GOP and Congress to pass a spending bill that's anything but cutting the deficit or debt.
And this is the rub with Trump. World leaders don't usually become world leaders because they're gullible. NO ONE will make any deals with him, and honestly if they do, they're using him. I could care less about his "art of the deal" BS. Your honor and your word are what makes (or breaks) deals. Trump lacks either, so whatever.
We don't have a pub/dem/MAGA problem in the US. We don't have a political problem, and there won't be a political solution. We have literally structural/governemnt problems that are leading to our demise, and too many people are content to point fingers instead of fix the real problem(s). Say what people like to hear and blame the other party solves nothing, which is why nothing has been solved, and won't.
There will be a dangerous level of doubling down by some MAGA people, and others will get angry and revolt.

Out of curiosity, what did you see in 2017 that you didn't in '15/16?

Personally, I had figured Trump out in 2010/2011 timeframe, when he was peddling the Obama birther conspiracy. He was clearly lying, and playing to a racist trope. I was also laughing at him when he joined the race in 2015. I thought that was just a publicity stunt and the voters would know that. I was stunned in 2015 when he started to get traction in the GOP debates. So, I guess the part that I had wrong originally was that the GOP was strong enough to keep a guy like Trump from taking over their party.
We do have structural issues in our government.
But the biggest problem we have is that the GOP went slap-a** crazy. The Democrats are no one's idea of a perfect party. But between the two, they're the only party that wants to seriously govern in today's America. A lot of people, like you, stepped away from the crazy in 2017 or 2020 or whenever. But to effectively end MAGA and the authoritarians that run it, you have to make the next step and start voting for Democrats. That's the only way to end MAGA....and the only way to start to turn the country away from MAGA lawlessness.

You're as big a part of the problem as the pubs and maga

smh
Forget dems and pubs. We have a broken Congress. If pubs control it, we overspend on the military and tax cuts. If dems run it we overspend on entitlements, etc.
NO ONE CUTS SPENDING. NO ONE. NO PARTY. NOT EVEN MAGA.
Congress. Period. Forget parties.
Furthermore, Congress has spent decades punting authority to keep getting reelected. Immigration? Let the President handle it. They've taken us WAY into debt too in the process. Trump would not be able to do tariffs if Congress wasn't broken.
No dems fixes this. No pub fixes this. Honestly, only the 50 states can fix this.

OK, fine. Stick with your talking point.
But right now, the most diseased part of our politics is MAGA. And the ONLY way to even begin to get to a normal politics is to vote MAGA out of office. And that can only happen by voting for the only party that can unseat them. Once that happens, then there's freedom to fix the structural issues. Until they're out of office, you can forget it.
And in the fact, the longer they're in power, the more entrenched the problems will be.

We have a diseased governemnt. You don't get there without BOTH parties

being diseased themselves. If you want to find the problem(s), look for the common ground. There's LOTS. If one party was superior, things would have been fixed long ago. Like when Obama had a dem congress, or Bush had a pub congress, or Trump had a pub Congress, or clinton had a dem congress, or........
Anyway........

Trump does an amazing job of highlighting legitimate grievances of people. He builds a lot of support with it.
The problem is, he has no interest nor ability to solve those actual grievances. He's just using them for his own personal grift.

Yet the single biggest reason he got elected was the out of control open southern border which he immediately shut down within a couple weeks and has kept shut down. And thats just one example of the many obvious things he's done since elected. You really think the kooks are melting down on here every day because he's not achieved anything? Oh please.

Are are the numbers on the border being “shut down” and who is providing them?
I have no doubt they are down significantly, but i find the “shut down” claim dubious

He's a great con man and marketing guy. I'll give him his due on that.
He will separate people from their money, and make them think they're special with their tacky red hats. But the movement that has been built behind him is a very dangerous thing.

You do realize that the US is one only a few countries in the world that has not had a female President or Prime Minister. And the countries that had a female leader are still around. And TheRump is an idiot. And a convicted felon, a convicted sexual assaulter and a insurrectionist, and he shld be in jail. He and Jeffrey Epstein should have been convicted of statutory rape for their escapades with underage girls. (Musk was right about that.)

If manly muscle face Marge is so interested in her childrens future she should stop spending those family millions to support a political candidate 😏. such a waste of money unless you have MANY millions. I also think Marge thought she would be rewarded with a cushy cabinet position for her loyalty and she was bypassed. She doesn’t feel like she “owes” taco her complete loyalty now and is saying what she really thinks. She’s trying to appeal to those disappointed MAGA’s who don’t agree with us getting more involved.

MTG: whine, whine, whine. How effing stupid can she be? So she's afraid of WW3! Personally nothing can scare me more than the Cuban missile crisis. Every day after that has been a gift for me. I was 13 at the time. (You had to be there I guess ....and paying attention). Enjoy your day.
